Default Second single for 1984 was? And second single for ADKOT will be?

1984 had Jump as it's first single right? Was a departure from their standard vibe. Was Panama the second single from that album? Or was it Hot For Teacher? Regardless, they came with a hard rocking follow-up single to their initial broad appeal single of Jump.

I know the validity of a second single hasn't been determined, but I wonder if they will follow suit this time around? Tattoo is liked by nearly everyone on the forums to some degree, few actually hate it. But nearly everyone would like something a little more in your face balls out rocking, like Panama or HFT was to Jump (did someone say She's The Woman or something like Bullethead?).

I don't recall the singles and follow-ups on other VH albums, was there a trend for a broad appeal first single followed by a faster paced rocker?

I'll Wait was 2nd, at least according to Wikipedia. Panama was 3rd, Hot For Teacher last.

Yeah, while I'll Wait was the second single, Panama was the second video, which mattered much more in those days. It felt like it went Jump, Panama, Hot For Teacher, since the MTV World Premiers of those videos were huge events.

Since they played "She's the Woman" at Club Wha, it is a decent bet that it could be the second single. However, not knowing the album, maybe there is something just as cool around the bend.

On FUCK, Pouncake was the first followed by Runaround. But I thought Right Now was the stronger song.

So many things have changed in the last 30 years, there's not much point in looking at what the band did back then. You're talking about a time before CDs, let alone digital music. Radio was different, MTV was different, the band was much different.

I don't remember hearing I'll Wait on the radio until well after the other three had played out.

I easily could be wrong, that was a lot of bong hits ago, but I really don't think I'll Wait was their 2nd single from 1984.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Yeah, it was all about the video release in those days. I remember clear as day the world premiere "event" of Jump, Panama, and Hot For Teacher. In my mind I'll Wait was always the fourth song even though it wasn't.

Yeah, I'd be interested to see a study on how most people hear about new music today. I can't tell you the last time my radio was tuned to FM. It's either AM or my iPod, and a let less AM now that I pretty much just listen to the Adam Carolla Podcast.

People will figure out the "best" songs on the album pretty quickly after it comes out without ever buying it. A minute and a half preview is a decent amount to figure out if you like a song or not.

Love it or hate it, Apple changed the way we consume music. It's no longer album-oriented, though true artists will continue to put out complete thoughts. But most people choose a la carte music now (and with iTV, broadcast television will eventually be the same way).

Since it seems like such a short song, I am starting to think that She's The Woman will not be a single. Unless it is longer on the album I just don't see that.
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

Still could be. But without word from the band or a copy of the album, it seems difficult to predict based on 15% of the album.

Yep, I recall watching world premier of Hot For Teacher on NBC's Friday Night Videos. Think I may still have that on videotape somewhere.

You're right about that. But I'll bet VH releases at least 4 singles from ADKOT anyway, you think they'll release "She's the Woman", "Bullethead" or something else?
The next single will have a faster tempo and no synths, for sure.
