Cool! This got me to thinking about what would be my #1 VH tune and, for all of us I imagine, this is impossible.

But, if I HAD to pick... I guess I'd go with...

Jump will probably be #1. I've never really understood this though. It's mainstream I guess why it always gets ranked as their best song. I always thought Ain't talkin bout love is their best. Unchained also always gets rated really high. Right now. When it's love from sammy era. So many songs.

    my top 5

    probably

    1. aint talkin bout love
    2. mean streets
    3. little guitars
    4. dont tell me what love can do
    5. humans being

In my opinion, your 4th pick,Don't tell me....is the most underrated song in the VH catalog...some of Eddies best guitar work ever!

Long time reader, first time poster. Van Halen nut since 1983. I've followed the drama closely through the years, always reading the forums but never posting. I was a regular lurker long before I officially signed up in '07. I figure after five years it's time to post.

    Ok, to enter the discussion...

    My top 5

    1. Unchained
    2. Humans Being
    3. Top Jimmy
    4. Right Now
    5. Somebody Get Me A Doctor

That said, breaking it down to five, let alone putting them in an order, is extremely difficult. If someone were holding me down and threatening to crap on my face, which is a situation I'm sure at least one person here would enjoy, and made me choose one Van Halen era over another I'd pick Dave or all else. There are a handful of the Sammy songs I really like, (Humans Being, Right Now, Don't Tell Me, 5150, Mine All Mine etc) but there are far more that irritate for no other reason than the absolutely horrible lyrics. For example, I've only listened to Up For Breakfast once and I'm not even sure I made it through the whole song. I also liked quite a bit of III though I think Gary wrote some pretty stinky lyrics too. They just didn't fit for me. The music on III, however, I think was quite mature and a real step out onto the ledge for Ed. Unfortunately most of his fans weren't willing to take that journey with him.

I love Tattoo. LOVE IT! There is a lot more there, musically and especially lyrically, than meets the eye (ear?). I have a feeling, based on pure speculation, that A Different Kind Of Truth is going to surprise a lot of people. I think the first single off any album by an established band is rarely the best song on the album. Enough to get the interest going, but not enough to blow the was in one shot, so to speak.

Rant over. Glad to be here. Look forward to getting into some scraps with some of you bastards and bastardettes.

    Cheers to the community!!

What once upon a time made Van Halen unique in the progression of metal and hard rock (besides Eddie’s prowess as a guitarist) was its sense of fun, its willingness to be not just over the top, but weird.

you had to vote, they had a list but it was missing a ton of songs....I don't know what the criteria was for it even being listed as a choice....looked like they had a couple of cd's and BOBW and that was it to choose from. I heard some and it was a neat idea but I wish they had everything to choose from.
