    Neither.

This thread's just asking for trouble. Comparing two guitarists that shouldn't even be compared

    Why?

I understand threads like this when VH is in hibernation, but with all that's going on now...why?

    Just to start shit.

This discussion came up in another thread but the only one who brought up Satch was Joey here. It's such a useless discussion when there's so much to be happy about, on both sides of VH past and present for a change.

Not going to say any dismissive of Satch cause we all have our favorite guitar players. Eddie is mine because the guy can write a song and can solo. When you hear a Van Halen song, you usually know its VH before the vocals come in. While a lot of guitarists have their own solo style, very, very few are easily identified by their rhythm playing. Ed is one of them. Hendrix is another. Not really sure who else there is when it comes to this outside of Mr. Wylde doing pinch harmonics ever fourth note.

His personality comes out in everything he does. Even in his keyboard playing you can tell its Eddie Van Halen.

He also had one of the best recorded tones in the history of electric guitar. There also was a time when nobody looked as cool with a guitar in his hand than Eddie Van Halen. He also could look goofy up there with his trademark grin which at one point, made you think he would be a great guy to hang out.

No disrespect to Joe but he like thousands of other guitarists I have listened to, just don't hit me that way. It doesn't mean they are terrible or should bow down to the greatness of Eddie Van Halen. In my eyes, there is only one guy who could do it all in a way that hit me. That is Eddie.

This thread is useless. I love both. Eddie is my favorite, but Satriani was always my number 2 guy. I like him better when he is solo. He makes such intricate music, I don't want anyone singing on top of it.

Eddie. There I said it. There is no comparison. Satch is a really good guitarist, but Eddie is on another level.

They're pretty different. I guess it's like comparing chocolate and vanilla. Both are great, I'd never pass either one up, and given the opportunity, I'd mix them together!

I've had the honor of meeting Joe a couple times backstage (upstairs, actually) at the Fillmore in San Francisco, and he's the nicest, most humble guy. I was too shy to ask him to sign the poster I bought, so he saw me standing there and said, "Do you want me to sign that? Here, let me sign that for you. Who's got a pen? Do you have a pen?" and sure enough, he signed all my stuff. (I was just a stunned young fan... to shy to walk up and slap him a high five and demand an autograph.)

Never met Eddie, but I doubt he's as sweet as all that. But yeah, I think Eddie holds first place in my heart musically, as well.

both are great players. From what I'm told by the guitar players here, Satch is a better technical player than Ed. I like the songs Ed writes better.

Some people like Jordan, some prefer Magic. Only an idiot can't see the greatness in both of them.
