Default Kool & the Gang: IRONY

I can't tell you how many years ago I realized the rather large similarity between the riff for "Best of Both Worlds" and "Celebration".

You can literally sing the choruses of both songs over either song.

    Here's "Celebration":

Try it -- sing "I want the best of both worlds and honey I know what it's worth!" over the chorus to "Celebration".

I know "there's only 12 notes that a man can play" but man are they similar.

OF COURSE -- I know for a fact that Ed not for one single second thought "I'm gonna rip off Kool and the Gang!" I'm 100% POSITIVE that he has probably never even made the connection himself.

But man -- it's the same riff no matter how you cut it.

And I think Kool & the Gang as an opener is the effen coolest thing ever.

When I first heard that KATG was the opener, I had thought that myself. Maybe Ed can come on stage and jam with them during that song.

When we first purchased 5150, our friends listened to it. At the beginning of Best of Both Worlds we all looked at each other like "That's Celebration."

i think they are the perfect opening act.We all have heard their songs for somewhere for decades.I think they will put me in a party mood before VH comes on.A party mood is always a good thing at a VH show.
I think their is some irony in all this.Van Halen single-handedly killed disco. Now,a band who has big success in the disco era is opening for the MightY VH.Pretty cool and i think these shows will be memorable this time out.I'm takin my kids to this one.

I think that due to the lack of responses on this thread, that most VH fans know that Best of Both Worlds was stolen from Kool and the Gang, and really just want to ignore it like it never happened (kind of like How Many Say I?)
    Right here I say....
