Wow, incredible... there's no other way to say it except to say that this is THE rock guitar tone. After all of the evolution of amp circuits and effects over the years, that 60's and 70's back to basics approach still kicks butt. To my ears anyway you could use that tone in basically any song and I'd love it. Well maybe not George Harrison's "Something" but you know what I mean. Thing is, that amp has a lot more crunch than I'd expect to hear from a 12 series Plexi clone without anything extra pushing the front end. But you still have the clarity and can hear the Strat twang in there as well. Nice to hear that little bit of "Women In Love" thrown in there near the end of the demo. I just listened to the entire VH II cd on a drive earlier this evening, doesn't take that long of a drive to do so.

That is one of the best production models I have heard. I am guessing these will have greater availabilty than some of the boutique amps out there.

Ouch, $3200 direct for all of the Suhr handwired amps. Still, it's possible to spend a lot more than that to go with true vintage equipment, and this amp sure nails that sound. Plus it says they're made by John himself. Me, I'll have to stick with getting in the ballpark by clean boosting the green crunch channel of my DSL100. I need an amp that masks my playing style (flaws) a bit. I've also been intrigued by the thought of having the Mod5 performed on a 1987 or 1959 Marshall or clone. I believe Pete Thorn is also the guy who gives a great "Eruption" breakdown in a series of youtube vids.

Honestly, the Suhr is a good amp. But for Van Halen first album tones, Mark's (Rockstah's) amps are so far ahead of this Suhr amp it isn't even funny. In fact, Mark gets way closer to Ed's feel in his playing than Pete does. Sorry-Pete is great and a really cool guy and he is really passionate about chasing Ed's first album tones, but he just falls short compared to Mark...
