    Default Maybe we were wrong...

Okay, here's my thoughts as of this moment...

A lot of people are/were pissed off that VH didn't give any info, positive or negative for years. I know they have been burned in the past either trusting in the wrong people or shooting themselves in the foot, it doesn't matter. I don't blame them for being silent even though at times it's extremely frustrating from a fan's perspective.

So, in the last couple of days, we have gotten more information than the last decade put together. They seem to have gotten their ducks in a row and are now ready to speak because they have something tangible to talk about. They may have had issues or whatever and are slow movers, but they hopefully have resolved them and now have a product to promote correctly.

The reason why I titled the thread "Maybe we wrong..." is because I'm now starting to think that they do care about the fans. Maybe they didn't want to let us down for the millionth time by actually saying something in fear that it fell through. It doesn't matter why and how and who's fault it is, but since Christmas, they seem like a real band again and are doing cool things like having pics at the VHND and actually informing us of dates of the single and album release, tour info, etc...

I hope the great PR work continues and I will apologize for criticizing the band for their extended period of silence...

I think a better guess is that they (and when I say they I mean the brothers) have no interest in talking or communicating at all unless they have something to sell. So unless they deem it necessary they won't say a word. Doing PR is work and they're not gonna work unless there's an immediate payday. Can't say I blame them all that much but I get why many people are critical of this lack of communication.

That was maybe....just maybe....the most apologetic VH post I've ever seen. You should get an award or something!

Sorry Charlie. My opinions formed over the last decade aren't going to change because they finally announced tour plans. I don't give a shit. That's something that was inevitable and that they had to do at some point anyway.

I agree with you, Dodge. However, I think that there were MANY opportunities out there for at least some little tidbit of information aside from "New flip flops today!", "Happy 1978! Keep on rocking'!", etc.

Eddie has no idea of how to connect with his fans through electronic media and how much we'd eat it up. He probably also has no desire to really use Twitter because he's pretty antisocial. I wonder: if he really gave Twitter a good effort and saw the results - a connection with fans on a somewhat personal level - would he embrace the results and change his mind about being so damned reclusive?

They might be the most un-fan friendly bands of all time. Years of neglect can't be made up with a couple of vids and some cool stories.....
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

There's no way Ed would ever have open communication with fans, back and forth like Twitter, he'd spend all his time dealing with assholes who feel they're owed some explanation or apology for the happenings with Sammy and Mike, and inactivity. I'd hope he has better things to do.

Fan interaction to Ed is releasing public statements on occasion, and structured meet and greets.

I will pm you my address so you can mail me my award...

This isn't directed at you when I say this...

Just because I made the choice to buy their products, that doesn't mean that I bought a share of the VH empire like it were a publicly traded stock. They don't owe me anything. No one put a gun to my head and forced me to buy the guitar or amp, albums, concert tix, whatever. I just don't get why so many people are so upset and bitter because they did nothing. If anything, we should be grateful and feel lucky we are getting jack shit from them. If I was them and read how people that are the "die-hard" fans talk about them on this site, I would release a CD with no music on it and a big middle finger on it and send an autographed copy to a good chunk of people who post in this forum. If someone is that pissed off and has a chip on their shoulder, stop talking about them and walk away. Follow a different band. I don't understand why people just want to swim in hate and dismay. Be happy. Go follow REM... Oops!!! Maybe somebody else...

I never thought that VH (and when I say VH I mean Ed) was treating the fans poorly by not updating websites, tweeting, or whatever.....I't just not his way......some people are communicaters and some aren't....I've always felt that Ed doesn't understand why people would want to know what he's doing or working on at any given moment....It seems that Ed is taken aback by the worship folks have....kinda afraid of it actually....If he has an album coming out, then yes, he'll get the word out.....but if he ain't got nothing to say, he simply won't say it.

I don't care what Eddie had for lunch, but not to open up the vaults during his brief time of inactivity is indeed a missed opportunity for fans..

He gets my cash, but no respect.

    Absolutely agree.

The difference is that the non communicators don't usually have a Twitter and facebook accounts.

Someone needs to explain the whole social media to the VH camp.

You see.....I don't understand that...why would you not respect a man for not releasing something if he didn't think it was worth releasing?

It's his stuff....not ours, or yours
