    Default So bass players....

I haven't heard anyone comment on the Wolfgang shaped bass Wolfgang was playing with the EVH Wolfgang headstock in the promo video - And the Fender bass speakers in the video.

Anyone care, intrigued, wants see more?

Am I the only one - I don't even play bass.

I thought it was cool to see actual bass cabinets on the stage this time. Wolf's bass reminded me of a Tele-style bass.

Ed had all 50w heads and 2x12 cabs.

Not to be naive, but aren't there supposed to be bass amps to go with the cabinetes?

I thought maybe there would be some buzz that there would be an EVH bass coming out.

I also liked Alex's bass drums being two drums conjoined to make one bass drum like he did way back in the day.

I am actually surprised they have not come out with a line of bass guitars yet.

Maybe they are waiting for his epic bass solo on the new album first.

*Coming soon to a store near you!*...2012, the year of the WVH signiture series Bass Guitar!

Joking aside, it would make perfect sense for EVH Gear to release a line of them.

    Yeah man!
I've been saving my pennies for a Warwick Thumb.
IMO, Warwick have got to be one of the best, heaviest sounding thudsticks on the planet.
Wolfie's basses have been damn cool. I loved the blue Franky Jazzes he had on the first tour.
This one I gotta see in color.

I noticed no bass heads either, in the Cafe Wha? photos you can see a Bass head sitting on top of Ed's 5150 III head .. it sort of looked like this.

All I know is that the bass tone I heard from the Cafe show was AWESOME. If he comes out with a signature bass that sounds like that, I'd definitely look into getting it for my studio (I'm not really a bass player, but I do play bass on a lot of stuff when there's no bass player around).

There is one vid...damn can't remember which song it was that was shot from Wolfie's side, and you can see an old Fender Bassman head there with the tubes glowing away.
Old Bassman's are awesome and very sought after for their range of tone from clean to real gritty on Bass, and damn near vintage Marshall like crunch when they are dimed, but they can sound a bit brittle on guitar and are not as reliable.
I was curious about the head on Ed's side too. I'm not sure. If it is in fact a Bassman head as well (which is basically what a Marshall Plexi is based on) he could have been using it as part of a blend in his tone, (two amps mic'd and sent to the board) or maybe using for a more vintage less gainy tone on stuff, though I didn't here that in these clips.
Remember back in the day, Ed actually had an old white Fender Bassman in his rig till he found that one sweet Marshall.
Tough to say. With Ed you never know. It may not have been used that night.
Another possibility is with the club being so small, it could be a split signal run into this head from Wolf's side so Ed could get a better gauge of what Wolfie was doing, though Ed's said in the past he doesn't like bass in his monitors, but then the whole Mike thing comes into the mix....Bah!!!
Does that clear it up for you? Haha.
I do know that Alex had a dedicated 5150 to his drum riser monitor in previous tours. It's a little old school to do it that way, but that may very well be what the Fender head was for on Ed's side.

Was there a head on Ed's side? I thought there were just four 4x12 cabinets and then one more on Wolfie's side with the head on top and then his head on top of it, with his 8x10 cabinets beside it.

Guitar and bass heads are often offstage in racks for quick break down and secure travel. That's why you don't see them on stage all the time. The guitar amp on stage right is probably a dry mix for Ed when he moves accross the stage, and could very well have another speaker slaved off of it for Alex. His 3 speaker set up on stage left is his wet-dry-wet configuration he has used for a long time.

All I would throw in is from what I have heard the kid has really upped his game. At only 20 years old he showed that the VH musical DNA runs heavy in that family. Plus the fact he originally started out as a drummer is always a plus for any musician, especially one that becomes a bassist. I like Michael Anthony and there is no denying the role his backing vocals played in that bands overall sound. But I nor anyone else hear runs in their circle and knows what all the facts are. The kid has taken a beating from the fans through no fault of his own. He has now passed through his chubby teen years, all the cruel internet wisecracks and handled the venom pretty well from what I have seen. From now on I think he will let his talent do his talking for him, as he sure as shit has that.
