    Default Chickenfoot vs. Chickenfoot III

I wanted to do a song by song comparison, in helping me decide which album I like better. Here it is, song-by-song:

Avenida Revolution vs. No Change - Slight edge to Avenida Revolution
O Yeah vs. Alright Alright - Even
My Kinda Girl vs. Different Devil - Even
Up Next vs. Down the Drain - Edge to Up Next
Sexy Little Thing vs. Dubai Blues - Edge to Dubai Blues
Learning to Fall vs. Something Going Wrong - Edge to Something Going Wrong
Turnin Left vs. Big Foot - Edge to Turnin Left
Running Out vs. Lighten Up - Slight edge to Lighten Up
Bitten by the Wolf vs Come Closer - Edge to Come Closer
Soap on a Rope vs Last Temptation - Edge to Last Temptation
Get it Up vs. Three and a Half Letters - Edge to Get it Up

And of course, there is no comparing Future in the Past to any other song. It is their masterpiece by a country mile in my humble opinion.

    Happy New Year!

I'm interested in knowing what formula you used to match the songs to compete.

For my money, III is a superior effort as the band has worked out any and all kinks and are now better friends and colleagues. They've grown as bandmates and carved out their own sound. I'd be very surprised if the follow-up to III surpassed it by a significant margin.

I would give a slight edge to III but not by much. It's hard to tell because some songs on CF I think are out of this world amazing, then others I like, but to a lesser degree. With CFIII, I definitely think it's a more consistant effort. Pretty much every song is well crafted. True, FITP is their best song, but I think Dubai Blues is a close second.

I think III is definitely a stronger album however I think the best of their debut trumps the best of III. Better mixed album as well.

However I like III much better.

I didn't really use a formula. I find myself doing this a lot. I just pick the songs that are similar in feel, time, and chorus and verse. It works real well sometimes..like to me Get It Up and 3 1/2 Letters are very simila to me. Just my opinions...and probably of no real value to anybody else.

And I agree...if they do a third album, which I'm really hoping for...I think it will be the best of the group. I'm looking forward to seeing them live. I think they are really meshing from some of the video I've seen.

Its no secret, I really didn't like CF's debut, with the exeption of My Kinda Girl which I thought was exellent. But I really like CF III. Its better written, performed and produced than the 1st in my opinion, they're really starting to gel as a band now so I'm looking forward to the next record.

The first album is much more of a party album. III is the more serious and darker of the two. I can't really compare them beyond that.

I like the rawness of cf1. I thought 3 was Hagar aiming for a hit, but at the expense of the toughness of the band.

I really though Hagar sounded amazing on the first cd. Very impressed.

Both efforts are great. The mixes are different. I think that Andy Johns puts the rhythm section first: Chad sounded better on CFI. Fraser worked more on the guitar sounds. I think Mike sounds great on both records.
CFI is more about the awesome riffs and the jams, while CFIII is a more "written" record, with more emphasis on songwriting. Coz if you think about it, "Soap On A Rope" is pretty much one huge, amazing riff. And not much else.
There ain't no riff this big on CFIII, but at the same time there's no laziness in the songwriting like you can find on the debut.

And regarding lyrics, CFIII demolishes CFI.

It's not even close!!!! The first album is much better. I don't even listen to III anymore, and it's only a few months old. The first album was a masterpiece.

I am actually one of the few that definitely prefers the first.

I don't even listen to CFIII anymore, while I have CFI still in rotation to this day.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Both get fairly even airplay by me, but currently I still slightly lean towards III, perhaps because I played CF1 forever.

But there are two similar songs that somehow annoy me and I mostly skip them when listening to them now:

    My Kinda Girl (from I)
    Different Devil (from III)

Both have a similar pop-vibe that doesn't hold for me. But beyond that, both thumbs up for both.

    III > CF

That's just me. The first album had some outstanding individual songs but fell short as a full album over time. III is fantastic top to bottom far as I'm concerned.
