I stumbled across this little article in a magazine from Oct '77 about up and coming artists:
Warner Bros. is busy recording the debut album of Van Halen, the hard rocking quartet that is quickly becoming a household word among L.A. youth. The group features David Roth on vocals, best described as a Jewish Jim Dandy, and guitarist Eddie Van Halen-so sizzling an instrumentalist, natives say, that he has "the fire of the streets in his fingers."
Van Halen's music is as raucous as it is primal. The onslaught is directed towards kids who want something uncomplicated, sexy, and loud. And the proven local appeal of this group demonstrates that hordes of L.A.'s young rock fans seem to want exactly that.
The writer seem to hit the nail on the head.
I find it funny that they mention that Dave is Jewish. Like it's of any consequence to the story; they don't mention Eddie's heritage.
Of course, at least Dave gets mentioned, Mikey and Alex are conspicuous by their absence.
Thanks for posting that Steven B.
