Default How has your opinion of The members of VH changed in the last 10 years?

I was thinking about this on my way to work today (why I don't know) but have your feelings of any of the members of VH (Dave, Sammy, Ed, Al, Mike, Gary and Wolf) changed dramatically in the last 10 years or so?

I have to do a few things before I can commit my answer to this thread but wanted to get your guys thoughts.

My opinion on almost all of them has changed alot over the last few years.....

Dave: I liked his days in leather assless chaps back in....wait, no I didn't. I was 5.

Sammy: wished he would have STFU then, he should STFU now, unless he's talking about Van Halen. I like it when he riles everyone up.

Eddie: I got really mad when he wouldn't allow anyone to update the VH website in 1985. I hate him for that.

Alex: there really isn't anything funny about Alex. He's good at drums.

Mikey: I've been pissed off since the day he foresook his given name Sobolewski, for Anthony.

I'm not even going to mention what's his name...you know, the dude that bent over and simulated putting his finger in his poopyhole during a concert.

I've said it after reading Sammy's book that I think less highly of each of every member of that band (during that era).

10 years ago I still had a decent opinion of most of the guys. I think Mike's a good guy and the same with Gary. Dave is wacky (opinion hasn't changed much on him). Ed/Al/Sam - I think little of any of them.

not to be mean, but this is so dumb to even contemplate...

Opinions are like A holes...blah blah blah...

No one even knows the guys personally enough to even form a true opinion.

Its all hearsay, media BS and rumors for the most part...

Not that much really. I still think they're all excellent musicians...well, except for DLR. The band (EVH, AVH & MA) are one of my favorite rhythm sections ever. As much as I hate what EVH has become, I can always look back and enjoy happier times. I don't let it get in the way of my love for the music.

it is true that none of us know them as people (well some might) but we are aware of the persona they have presented to us for the last 10 years and that is what I am asking about. It is all about opinion...it's in the thread title.

it's just something to BS about...jeez.

My opinion has changed in that I no longer blindly idolize any of them like I did when I was younger. I do not put them on pedestal. I don't have any strong love or dislike for any of them. I don't really know them - how can I? They put out music and more often than not I listen to it.

I don't think it's my opinion has just so much as my outlook on life in general has changed quite a bit the last 10 years so I see these guys differently as a result. I've learned not to pass judgement on people the way I used to (various life experiences have led me to this realization)...I think Eddie has been through hell and should probably really be dead, but he's managed to make it through, and I think he's a good person, just probably dysfunctional (I am too in many ways so I don't mean that in a strictly negative way)...and a musical genius in the true sense of the word. Dave is a fascinating guy and he's led an interesting life and seems to have matured nicely over the last decade. Mike I think is a genuine guy, pretty straightforward and unassuming and just a really good guy. I've always had a difficult time reading Alex so I really don't know what to say about him. Sam seems to live in the moment. He likes life's pleasures, and with his wealth he can afford all of them, and he seems content to experience life on that level.

I don't know these guys so these are just impressions I have of them. I certainly don't idolize them like I did when I was a teenager and that's a good thing. They are just people, flawed like all of us, proud moments and regrets.

I have a feeling the new material will be quite good and it will be nice when we have that to talk about instead.

Dave - love him in =VH= and the first couple of solo albums.

Mike- class act. Lol . He has skeletons too.

Alex - should have stepped in earlier to help Ed.

Sammy - business man all the way. Push what's he is doing at the moment .

Gary - sure wish he did 1 or 2 more albums with =VH=. With other producers.

Wolf - Average 20 year old asshole kid.

Edward - Addiction is a bitch . But He is on the other side if it now.

=VH= - open vaults its time to give us fans ( who gave you what you have) what we want. But = VH= owes me nothing. I am happy with what i have already .

In the last ten years my opinion has changed alot. In 84 when Dave left I always thought he was the asshole. Now I am rather sure that Ed was always an asshole. Sammy seems rather approachable and nice in the times I have seen him like his club opening in Vegas 2 years ago. Dave I met backstage in a group in 08 and he was a very happy and nice guy that night although I was trashed. Alex is the true mystery man of this group who the hell knows about him. Mike is a class act having met and talked to him in the lobby at the Hard Rock in Vegas the day before Sammys club opening in Vegas. On our backstage tour in Greensboro in 08 I did hear Eds voice on a walkie talkie barking out orders to some roadie he sounded like a very demanding guy. All I know is I have hung with these guys for 35 years as a fan and when they are on its a gift from the rock and roll gods but since the Balance tour its been mostly a shell of their former greatness with of course very little love for the fans as a whole.
