Those are some disappointing truths (if true at all). I noticed they left Pink Floyd alone so I am not that bothered.

Honestly to me these facts don't depress me as much as thinking that Randy Rhoads and SRV are silent while the people on this list are making music.

At one point the Beatles were like The Jonas Brothers. They just were allowed to evolve.

    5. The Black Eyed Peas' “I Gotta Feeling” is more popular than any Elvis or Simon & Garfunkel song

This one was hard to believe...More popular than Elvis?

Elvis didn't have the internet or the iPod. Something like inflation has to be worked into those figures. Guess my parents were right when they said my music was garbage, because I'm saying it about todays junk. ugh!

Yeah... that one I'd probably call BS on.

Despite how disgusting it is that any of those modern acts are selling ANYTHING, you have to take into consideration the differences of now and then.

If you were a Beatles fan in 1967, you had to have the money and time to go down to the record store and buy an actual copy. Now you just go ahead and click "download" or "buy" and you have the song in 10 seconds.

Before, people were careful and selective about what singles/albums they bought. Now people buy singles from iTunes because it's the flavor of the week and it will just end up sitting on the their iPod forever after about 2 listens.

Yeah, that one had me wondering as well: How do you measure popularity?

There's no evidence given to support any of these facts. They could be true.

If you look at a list of artists by total certified sales, it starts to look a lot more familiar and less disappointing.

    The Beatles
    Elvis Presley
    Michael Jackson
    Madonna
    Elton John
    Led Zeppelin
    Queen
    ABBA
    Mariah Carey
    Celine Dion
    Pink Floyd
    AC/DC
    The Rolling Stones
    Bee Gees
    (etc.)

Although, it's a bit depressing that VH is in fact between Eminem and Rhianna on this list.

Whatever the facts and figures may truly be, it doesn't change what sounds good and what sounds like frying shit on a waffle iron.

On a sort of related note.....on the same page I clicked on 40 things that will make you feel old. I truly had no idea that I was older than any of the Spice Girls. ....the fuck.

Yep, I clicked on that as well, and though I'm not older than any of the Spice Girls I felt old.

They got # 1 right. Ultimate sadness, especially since that greatness has been silenced.

It's too late now, but maybe for the last 30 years if radio stations didn't play the same damned 3 tunes, maybe people would have listened a bit more to Jimi. He had so much more than what popular radio played\plays. At least the internet doesn't hinder you like the radio we grew up on did.
