Default Trans Black Peavey Wolfgang EXP

Has anyone out there heard of a production trans black wolfgang exp? I found one on ebay and took a chance on it I thought at one time I had seen one on musicians friends catalog when they first came out with the exp but wasn't sure it has been so long ago.

To be honest I have never seen a T-Black EXP before. I know the 4 original colors were Amber, Blue, Sunburst and Maroon. I do not think anything is fishy about it as they were doing some off the cuff things at the very end to put together everything leftover. Though I am more inclined to think that someone in the Korean factory may have made a model for themselves. A bit of an oddity.

I saw that one and also did a double-take. It is most definitely an EXP, and there were only four official colors offered for that model: amber, maroon, blue, and sunburst. So maybe it was an oddity that got out of the factory, maybe it was intentionally (or unintentionally) faded from one of the production colors, or maybe an owner stripped and re-finished it.

No matter what the case, it's an EXP and therefore worth avoiding.

I was wondering how long before the customary AT "EXP sucks" jab...

I just thought it was a bad move on the part of Peavey to cheapen the line like that. If they hadn't compromised so many of the parts and had insisted on more consistent quality control, I'd probably feel differently. PRS has done extremely well with their Korean-made SE series, and it's all about the quality control.

EXP wolfgangs do suck from the factory but with a little effort they can be pretty decent and hold up fairly well. but yes they are a far cry from the usa models wich i have several of both. i was just wondering if anyone had ever seen a trans black because i never saw one. but i am gonna go back in my musicians friend catalogs "pack rat i never throw anything out" i'm almost sure they offered it as an option in the very begining.i did buy it though what the hell at the very least i have another trans black guitar,

Post a picture when you get it. Maybe you'll be able to tell upon close inspection if it's a re-finish.

About five years ago there was a custom shop trans black birdseye maple top Wolfgang Special on eBay. I resisted buying it and have regretted it ever since.

I tried an EXP once and didn't like it.

I got an amber EXP when they first came out and never had a single quality issue with it. Plays great. Neck has never needed adjustment. Consistant low action with no buzzing. The Floyd works perfectly, it never goes out of tune. Maybe there's a lot of crap ones out there and I just got lucky.

No. They have regular serial numbers the same as production models. Very early prototype custom Peavey Wolfgangs (pre-custom shop) had serial numbers that started with a "1," but there are only a handful of those out there.

I bet you are still kickin' yourself over that one... I know I would...

It gets kind of tiring seeing the same old quilts and flames...

Something unique like a cool birdseye or a killer blister quilt is more up my alley...
