This isn't really a rumor, but Dave recently confirmed in an interview that he's been meeting with legendary producer Rick Rubin in L.A. I've been waiting for this for years. If anyone, outside of Ted Templeman, has the ability to successfully guide Dave through the production of an album it's Rubin. Rubin's track record (AC/DC, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.) speaks for itself. He seems to have the knack for helping artists bring out the best of themselves. Although I honestly believe Dave can still produce great "big rock sound" material, he needs someone like Rick to helm his ship. If this union happens, it'll be Dave's best solo album since "Eat 'Em & Smile."

Yeah when I first saw that I got excited. Rubin knows what he is doin and has the balls to do it. Look what he did for Johnny Cash. Imagine what he can do for Roth?! Imagine if he was doing a VH album, but back tro what we DO know... Rubin has the clout and pull to get Dave "on" so to speak.

I had the honor of working on that CASH project, I was part of a small folm crew that shot a B & W documentary for that show (for Rubin's company)and part of it wound up oin the back cover...the best part of the whole deal was that The original Man in Black asked if I'd have a beer with him...The producers agreed I should, that was cool!

Anyway, this pairing makes sence and I'm betting he's gonna do for Dave what he has done for others in the past. Let the music speak for itself!

Well I HATE the chili peppers with a PASSION!!! thats 'Sweet Leaf' rip-off 'give it away' is the most annoying chorus ever recorded!!

And he did diddlysquat for AC/DC - Ballbreaker SUCKED!!!

From what I've read he just turns up and the band records - I think he's vastly over-rated.

Anyway DLR has a habit of name dropping people - remember prior to DLR Band he was suppose to be working w/Billy Sheehan and Carmine Appice! So I wouldn't read too much into it.

But if he did produce - it would mean more exposure for Dave - make him more relevant, some credibility - so basically ignore everything I just said!!!!!!

If Dave and his current line up have Bob Rock as a producer.......... WOW FUCKIN' AY!

    That would be the shit!

Bob Rock is the type of producer that likes to build on strengths of the musicians and likes to leave the weaknesses out so that there are no showstoppers.

    Example:

    Metallica= Black Album
    Motley Crue: Dr. Feelgood

    Need I say more........
What is understood, need not be discussed.

Rubin also produced some of Tom Petty's best work, and had a hand in the first Black Crowes album. He was rumored to have been the producers on Black Sabbath's never-finished reunion album.

The cowboy boots that you never polish because it's bad luck. That is completely wabi-sabi. Van Halen is that." - DLR 2002<br /><br />"Look! I can see their parachutes! A "name" producer like Rubin is a good start but Dave needs GREAT songs to make this work.
    The song ain't dirty
It's really just the way we sing it
