Default 30 on 30: The Greatest Guitarists Picked by the Greatest Guitarists

Eddie was picked by Richie Kotzen, and Edward picked Eric Clapton. Eddie is mentioned by a few other guitarists, too.

Very cool article. Hearing legends talking about who inspired them is very revealing; you almost see them regressing back to their childhood as they talk about the guys they revered.

Kotzen is not only one of my favorite guitar players, but overall musicians of all time. His story about coming to know Eddie is pretty funny and he absolutely nails why Eddie is so great. I couldn't have said it better.

Got the actual magazine. Very good read. Just like you say, it's interesting to read what some of these people think of other guitarists. We all know EVH loves Clapton, but there is some other bits in there that are pretty cool.

And yea, Kotzen is one helluva musician.

Very cool read. I must say though, I'm very surprised by Zakk Wylde picking Glenn Tipton & K.K. Downing. Not because they're not great guitarists or anything, just because I have absolutley NEVER heard him mention them before, and I follow Zakk very closely. He's always talking about his influences, and he ALWAYS puts Eddie and Randy Rhoads at the top. Although, he did start out by saying "When I think of underrated guitarists .." so I guess he was coming at it from that perspective.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"A lot of bands mature, which means they get square; they start delivering messages. Hey, you got a message, use Western Union." -DLR

'In order to get a unique sound I had to squeeze it out with my fingers.'

Now that is the best quote I have heard in a long time from Eddie. It's true though. I have been playing with no effects for 20 years and just started getting effects 2 years ago.

Would have been funny and got this place in an uproar if Ed picked Satriani and Satch pick Ed.
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.
