Default David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen filming the Panama music video

Anybody else seen this one before? It has nothing to do with new Van Halen but I thought it was kinda cool to see. Besides it a little distraction from disappointment of tonight.

Brings back good memories... the actual concert footage for the Panama video was shot at the Spectrum in Philly (now gone), which is where I saw all of my CVH shows. I did miss the 1984 tour though, either due to appendicitis or pneumonia. I can't recall which... there was a lot of drinking in those years.

I was at that show. Great show too! I saw VH twice that year.

Cool... you were at the 1984 Philly show? That was obviously a long time ago and I guess you have moved since then. I wanted to see it but I was temporarily crippled by one of those conditions. The only CVH show I saw two nights in a row was on the Diver Down tour. It was the first time I realized these shows were scripted. In my naive teenage mind I guess I thought they were always completely mixing it up each night. I recall all of Dave's stories, some rather lengthy, were identical on both nights. We knew none of this in the pre-internet days!

Yes! I grew up in Levittown Pa. I was 14 or 15 at the time. Me and a friend took the train downtown to see the show. I tried to smuggle a bottle of Jack Daniels in to the show, but you know how security is in Philly. I was patted down and the security guard took my bottle and threw it into a trash can full of bottles people were trying to smuggle into the show.

I remember how great Eddie's playing was that night, and I remember Dave doing the moon walk during his shtick on the upper platform. Great Show!

Of course the crowd went wild when Dave told us that the show was being filmed for a video.

I moved to Dallas in 86 after I graduated fom High School.

What a great story, and I had forgotten about that super tight Spectrum security in Philly. We went to tons of concerts there for just about anyone, Blue Oyster Cult, you name it we were there. Even bought tickets in the parking lot for Madonna's Like A Virgin tour of all things. I recall around Rush Signals or Grace Under Pressure we had crappy seats, bought really good seats at face value while walking to the arena and then sold our original crappy seats at face value all before entering.

One time a friend tried to smuggle in a little plastic vial of pot in the front of his pants. Thinking back, why the hell didn't he just try to smuggle in joints that were already rolled? I wasn't big on pot but drinking was my thing. Anyway, the security guard pats him down REALLY thoroughly and asks "what's that?". My friend replies "my cock" and I had to start busting up laughing. Needless to say he handed it over and then we headed inside to the show. LMAO Did you ever go to Pat's after a show for a cheesesteak? We used to do that and my friends were always looking to pick a fight as we were walking around South Philly at midnight or 1 AM. Man you'd never walk around doing that these days, you'd end up dead.

I never really hung out downtown. I was a little north in Levittown and Fairless Hills area. We used to go to Geno's. I heard the guy that owned Geno's died recently.

I saw a ton of shows at the Spectrum though. I saw AC/DC and Areosmith there at least 4 times there. Good times!
