Default Movers And Sheriffs Deputies Refuse Banks Order To Evict 103-Year-Old Atlanta Woman

    http://thinkprogress.org/special/201...fuse-eviction/

Yesterday, a Deutsche Bank branch in Atlanta had requested the eviction of Vita Lee, a 103-year-old Atlanta woman, and her 83-year-old daughter. Both were terrified of being removed from their home of 53 years and had no idea where theyd go next.
But when the movers hired by the bank and police were dispatched to evict the two women, they had a change of heart. In a huge victory for the 99 Percent, the movers took one look at Lee and decided not to go through with it. Watch WSB TVs Channel 2′s video report about the incident:

The stress of the possible eviction made Lees daughter ill; she was rushed to the hospital the same day. Lee had one message for Deutsche Bank: Please dont come in and disturb me no more. When Im gone you all can come back and do whatever they want to.
    Some decency on display.

She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.

I'd feel a lot better about this story if she said something like "I'm going to continue to try and pay back that which I owe" instead of "Please dont come in and disturb me no more. When Im gone you all can come back and do whatever they want to.

If they have lived there for 53 years, what could they possible owe the bank??? An equity loan??

I have no idea - but my understanding is that banks don't usually evict you if you're all paid up. Unfortunately, the reporter didn't get that part of the story.

Bingo!! She signed documents using the home as collateral and then failed to pay back the amount borrowed. If you take pity on this person, then you have to take pity on all of the people in foreclosure, most of which over extended themselves in the first place. I just hope this woman didn't take out a 15 year loan 10 years ago at 93 years old thinking that "I'm old, what are they gonna do if I don't repay it?" because she deserves to be thrown right the hell out of there just as much as the prick loan officer deserves to fired that made the offer to her in the first place. It sure doesn't say anything about the facts of the story at all so it is hard to know which way to lean on this one but having worked in mortgage for a decade I know the tricks the elderly often use to get loans which they have ZERO intention of repaying.

The bank will still eventually end up with the asset (the house). They'll just have to wait a little bit until she kicks off. I'd bet the loan is less than the home's value. Of course I don't know, but I'd bet that's the case. I'm sure that's part of the decision to give them a loan. If there's money in the estate, they get paid. If there's not, they get the property, and a bigger profit. Pretty low risk for the bank.

And this "if you do it for one, you do it for all... blah blah blah"... Fine. To be honest, I'm fine with that. If you're another centenarian facing foreclosure, you get a pass too. Boo hoo... Poor banks are gonna go under. Yeah, right.

    Update:

    http://www.11alive.com/rss/article/2...-keep-her-home

ATLANTA -- A 103-year-old woman who was facing eviction will get to stay in her home.

Elvinia Hall and her 83-year-old daughter have lived in their northwest Atlanta home for 53 years, but her son admitted to 11Alive News that he hadn't been paying their second mortgage. About $20,000 was owed on the family home, which was in foreclosure.

Mother and daughter were set to be evicted Tuesday, but deputies didn't have the heart.

State Senator Vincent Fort, former city councilman Derrick Boazman, and the mayor's office stepped in after hearing the women's story.

On Wednesday, Chase Bank said they would work out a way to keep the women in their home.
Shame on the Son. Give some credit to the bank here.
