Default Video - Eddie supporting donation program for Jason Becker

Found this just now and a quick search showed that it was not posted yet!

I've never seen this video before, seems it's from sometime around 1991-1993. Edward got very emotional while doing it, a very beautiful moment indeed...

ps: I've heard and read from many sources that Eddie does/did a lot of charity donations without making it public. Does anyone here know anything about it?

Very sad. I remember when this all went down. I know he was the guitarist on Dave's A Little Ain't Enough solo album.

I remember Dave spoke about Jason in his book. THink he said he cried when diagnosis came down. Sad story. Amazingly enough, he is still alive which is tremendous considering he was only given a few years to live when first diagnosed. Here's his website http://www.jasonbecker.com/

    I think this is 96 or 97.

Also, I thought the reason For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge was given the title by Eddie in reference to Jason's guitar playing on "A little ain't enough".

Like "F.U.C.K." I didn't know there were kids out there this good. I thought It blew Eddie's mind.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

This simply proves that deep down in his heart of hearts, Edward is ultimately a man of great character. I have found in my research that person after person after person say he has -- verbatim -- "a huge heart." He is a complex person and does not always exemplify those traits, but deep down, I know that this is the kind of man he really is.

    Live long, Ed.

Sounds a lot better than Sam's story about him wanting to literally call the album "Fuck" or something. I think he was told what it stood for and just named the album that way. Perhaps its an amalgamation of the two.

This is really sad. I remember Dave insinuating in his book that Jason probably would've been greater than Eddie, and I think Eddie perhaps felt the same way. It is a real, real shame about what happened to Jason but it is amazing to know that he is still alive, loved and supported by those around him and from fans around the world.

I guess we slag Eddie off quite a bit here - but moments like this remind us what a great guy he was when it came to a good cause.
If I told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about what I've gone through over the last 20 odd years, what it took to finally get where I am, people just wouldn't fucking believe it. So it's pointless. I now realize that I can't change people's minds, and I really don't want to or need to try. I'm at peace with it, and that's all that matters. - Edward Van Halen

I tend to think most agree that Ed is a good guy. His problem is alcohol. I think we've all seen people (I have) who are otherwise great people mutate into ass holes when under the influence. Still, he doesn't get a pass even if he is one of the greatest musicians ever to walk the earth.

I remember Ed telling this story on VH1 when the record was first released. Maybe its true.

I know Johnny Beane is a friend/aquaintence of Jason's and I'm pretty sure he was at his last birthday celebration. We chatted about it on Facebook a while back. I love the fact that Jason is still involved in making music, he truly is an inspiration to many of us.

Story causes my eyes to well up a bit but yes, true inspiration. Considering his disease, he's probably put out more music than certain band we all know in past 13 years.

As a recovering alcoholic (coming up on 3 years dry) -- I agree.

You don't get a pass. I've tried it. "But I was drunk." Doesn't work. I promise.

You have to earn it back. I kind of still feel like Ed is still earning it back. He may even have a ways to go. After all, he didn't actually finally quit drinking until March of 2008.

There's also audience footage on YouTube of the 1996 benefit concert Eddie put together for Jason Becker featuring Steve Lukather and Billy Sheehan. Their version of Hendrix's "Fire" is amazing.

They played so many unbelievable songs: "Good Times Bad Times," "Little Wing," "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love," "Fire," -- but by far the best and most brilliant was "I Want You (She's So Heavy)." It is absolutely freakin' brilliant. Over the top brilliant. Maybe even some Ed's best playing ever.
