Default Capturing that classic VH sound

Do you think Van Halen can do it?? Eddie's guitar really hasn't sounded the same since he stopped using those marshall amps back in the day. It was that 100 watt marshall amp, mxr flanger, phase 90 and whatever else he was throwing in there. He also had a custom pickups he used in those older guitars. I think the humbucker he used was a Seymour Duncan. Since DLR and Eddie split he's gone with newer gear and his tone has changed.

Can't Get This Stuff No More and Me Wise Magic still have that newer EVH sound. It sounds darker than some of the Sammy stuff sans stuff like Human's being he did around the same time.

He's sounds more like the Darth Vadar of guitars with that stuff. It has a dark full sound but it's still not that classic sound. The new wolfgangs sound even darker.

Hs guitar sound has been changing and evolving so much over the years.

Who says he wants to? Or even should? It's not the sound.. it's the notes. Eddie says it himself. We all know when we hear a clip.. instantly you can tell if it's Eddie or not, regardless of the tone.

I don't care as long as it's Eddie playing.. that's good enough for me.

    No doubt nicholas.

Sort of like Rebecca Black with no auto-tune. You still know it's her...

Who really wants a new dated sounding VH album?

    Really now.

Duran Duran went back to their 1982 sound/songwriting on last album and while some people love it i think it sounds just too weird.

A "classic" sounding new VH album may look good in print but just not sound right.

I like how his guitar has evolved. I liked the sammy stuff particularly those ernie ball guitars he was using. Since he started making his own guitars his sound has been going a certain way. I wouldn't say it's classic sounding but it's definately darker. I just don't see how this album will sound like old stuff? Maybe it will sound new which would be good.

I still think one reason Ed's sound has evolved through the years is his choice of notes have changed. Seems like Ed's been playing in the lower register on the latter stuff.

everything Ed and Al have been doing since 1991(which aint much! lol) is "Poundcake". Ed's tone will sound like Poundcake and Al will play that lumbring Poundcake beat

They must have dropped acid one night and thought if they didn't play Poundcake over and over again they would slide off the side of the Earth(i do know that feeling!)

so,......it'll all sound like some variation of "Poundcake"

just give me that ah ah aha ah

    Gotta disagree, Hain.

    "Seventh Seal" was entirely distinct...

Classic Van Halen. In Pace Requiescant.

The only way they could capture that classic VH sound would be if they pipe in some Mike Anthony.

That, or just do it the right way. But that is too much for VHIV. It will never be classic VH anymore.
    Just go for it!
