Default 2011/2012 MLB Hot Stove Thread

It's that time of year again where we all try to figure out where the free agents are going and for how much $$$. Last off-season really didn't have a lot of big names to talk about (Jeter, Lee, etc..). This year we have a few big names to talk about right off the bat: Pujols, Fielder, Jose Reyes, CJ Wilson, Buehrle, Joe Nathan, Oswalt, Lidge, and some dude named "Yu" from Japan.

Also, what's Epstein going to do with the Cubs right away? How much will the Yankees give CC? Can the Red Sox recover from the huge collapse in Sept? Is there a team that really doesn't have to make any big moves to be in the playoff picture?

Baseball doesn't require the audible communication that football does, so a loud crowd in a baseball dome doesn't throw off the opponent as much as it does in football. If anything, the loudness in Tropicana Field (even when there is only 5 spectators) is more of an annoyance than a hinderance.

...as far as Pujols and Fielder goes, I have to think Big Al is worth a heck of a lot more than Prince - do you think Team Pujols waits until Fielder signs before they do?

That's what I am thinking. What about Fielder to the Angels?? Can they make enough room for him now, sign him to a deal long enough so when his body breaks down, he's a DH? Then I would bet that the Cubs and Cards will have a war for Pujols.

Sad because the Dodgers could really use Fielder, plus he's from LA (well before he moved to Florida).

Yankees: please, get rid of a-rod. The Japanese pitcher mentioned in the original post is Yu Darvish, a Japanese -indian who plays for the national team. Saw him in the wbc, not too shabby!

I remember when Tom Hicks gave him $125 million. He was building a team to 'beat the Yankees.' He is looking like a genious right now...a bizarro genious, since A-Rod had to BE a Yankee to make this happen, but nevertheless...

No one wants to take on his huge salary. The Yankee's would have to pay a very large portion of that, my guess is at least 60%.

I doubt they would do that.
