    Default Ed's tone on Runaround?

I hear alot about the Soldano's and the EBMM prototypes being used on FUCK, along with the Frankie last being used for "Judgement Day". However, there's a certain twang to EVH's tone on some songs especially "Runaround" that I really love. It's almost like he played a Telecaster. Does anybody know much of how he got that kind of sound?

On Runaround, he did indeed play a Telecaster that Fender sent to him!

Cool! If it was a standard Tele, then I know what I'm looking for next time I'm buying a guitar.

Another cool part of that tone is he used the Danny bass he used on Spanked underneath to thicken it up in the later bars of the intro.
    Cool sound.

I have the article in the Guitar World about that song....Just reread it recently when I was going through my mags. It was in fact a brand new Tele on that song.

Yep--it's a Tele. And he switches to the neck pickup during the breakdown.

That's my favorite tone of his on F.U.C.K.

Really? Neat. If I remember right he also used a 12-string electric on Poundcake. He used some real cool ideas on that album.

Yessir...He doubled the 12 string part too.
That's what I loved about the album..It didn't have great complete tuneage from beginning to end, but it was the most creative technique/equipment wise he'd been in a while. From the drill, the 12's, the Danny bass, E-Bow (also in Spanked), the Bob Bradshaw prototype preamp on Dream Is Over, and the Chet Atkins electro-acoustic on 316...lots of cool stuff.
That's one thing that I think Andy brought to the table....Lot's of inspiration. The guy just bleeds rock & roll, and he really connected with Ed during their time together.

That's right! Forgot about that one.
Also remember a rumor, but I have no idea if it's factual or not....but wasn't there some story floating around years ago that Judgement Day was at least lyrically penned for use in the Terminator II soundtrack?
Supposedly a number of bands had submitted tunes for the soundtrack, and Judgement Day was hopefully to be used in one of the action sequences, but it was passed over for a GnR tune or something.
No idea if it is true....Just remembered something about that. Would have been cool. Oh well...At least they nailed a big soundtrack credit in Twister.

***EDIT*** actually just did a search, and yes they did....They lost to GnR because their bid was too high. Man that would have been awesome. Could imagine that song pounding in the high speed highway scene.

Yeah, with Jim Carrey's character Johnny Squares lip-synching to it when they were shooting a music video within the movie. That was probably the most frightening scene in the entire movie.
