Neat. I always though Sammy would have sounded good on The Full Bug, Drop Dead Legs, and Dirty Movies.

He was probably reading a banner or a sign some chick was holding up. Pretty cool.

    It's just one sentence.

If Sam had embrace the Roth back catalog, I think he'd still be in the band. It was all about ego that he didnt want to sing these songs. He used to say he couldn't get behind the lyrics - come on, "Drop Dead Legs" - those lyrics could've been in a Sam song.

That is absolutely NOT why he's not in the band.

I personally think that is why the old fans didn't embrace him as much. During the 5150 tour they only played a few songs from the entire VH catalog...basically thumbing their noses to old VH. Many fans didn't like that. I think during the 1993 tour they got a little better adding RWTD and Unchained.

And then in '04 with Somebody Get Me a Doctor and I think a couple of others if I'm not mistaken. There are some bootlegs on youtube where the band played I'm the One and Drop Dead Legs, but that was during rehearsal. I agree that Hagar not wanting to sing much classic VH is mainly the reason why it became harder for people to accept him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but during the 5150 tour they only played ATBL, Jump, and Panama. I don't include YRGM since that was a cover. 3 songs from 6 albums that made them the #1 rock band in the world. Big mistake.

But it was great to hear Sammy say the lyrics to Full Bug.

Naaaa... most of the old fans made up their minds almost immediately. He was screwed either way. Ignore CVH - piss off CVH fans, "for not singing the Roth tunes". Embrace CVH - piss off CVH fans, '"cause he can't sing the tunes like Roth did".

Having said that -- it would have been fun to hear him do Jamie's Crying, Feel Your Love...

    RWTD was played in 1988.
Sings like a bird. Rocks like a pig.

Also of note but unrelated, I have a bootleg from 1980 where the verse to The Seventh Seal is jammed.

I know it's not the reason Sam got fired. But what I mean is IF he had sang the whole catalog, and not in a half-assed way, then what would be the point of having Roth back from a fan's perspective? Sam would've sang the Roth stuff better than Roth ever did. Take one of the few old songs he was really into, Panama - you didn't really miss Roth when hearing it. So for him to sing say "Hear About It Later" live - that would've been a way to make sure he would always be there. In 1996, for a lot of fans the only upside of Sammy's firing was the possibility of hearing "I'm The One" or "Cradle" live. Sam could've guaranteed his non-firing by embracing a more diverse setlist.

I agree about Sam singing more CVH but there was NOTHING he could have done to save his job, not with the way Ed and all his paranoia and substance abuse was affecting everybody around him. Ed is a douche plain and simple IMO and sobriety still has not cured that.
