    Default New VH Documentary?

I haven't posted here in a lot of years, but I just heard a very interesting rumor and had to pass it on. Please take it with an ENORMOUS grain of salt, as it's third-hand info. Basically, a professional acquaintance of mine told me this bit that he heard from a music-industry friend, so who knows if there's any truth to it.

Anyway, the info is that the people behind the recent RUSH: BEYOND THE LIGHTED STAGE documentary are readying a similar project for VH to promote the new album and tour next year, kind of like the same thing that both Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam have recently done.

    How cool would that be?

Very cool indeed, but not very likely to happen, IMO. Promotion might have to be done.

Great, another opportunity to flip off Ray Daniels when I see him on screen.
Those guys did a great job with Rush and Iron Maiden: Flight 666. I highly recommend both for viewing.

Interesting. A guy at Long and Mcquade music in Vancouver Canada said he had heard a rumor about a new bio or doc as well about VH, so maybe there's some truth to it, but given that there were supposed to be at least three known video projects involving VH over the past 5 years that never materialized, I wouldn't be surprised it WON'T happen.
    Would be cool though.

If this movie does come out, I'm sure there will be a thread about how many times Eddie talks about being a "tone chaser".

Maybe we'll finally get to see some of the footage that they filmed during 07/08.

I won't hold my breath though, this is Van Halen, they haven't done anything sensible in a loooooong time.

I don't claim to have any real information but I own Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, Flight 666, and being a huge Rush fan followed them throughout the making of BTLS so I'm at least pretty familiar with them and the last I read was that their next major documentary was going to be on AC/DC. Of course, that could have changed. I just can't imagine a documentary of VH at this point in the mold of Beyond the Lighted Stage. There's no way Eddie or Alex would even participate in something where Dave, Sammy, Mike, and Gary would have a perspective. To say nothing of all the other insiders you'd have to give voice to.

I hope I'm wrong though, I'd love to see it but I'd bet that even if they confirmed they were working on it it'd never be completed because they won't get any cooperation. Just my opinion. Sam Dunn also said they were going to be doing the next Iron Maiden live dvd just like they did with the new Rush one that's about to be released. Maybe they'll try in the future with VH if they have a successful album/tour cycle and are more accessible.

Just looked them up and they're also working on a TV series for VH1. I'd say they're already booked for a while.

A documentary covering the last 15 years will only be about 15 seconds long.

They can't even make a CD. A DVD sounds like an herculean task.

Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

This is the last band I would think that would ever want to do something like this. Even in they did, having it be completed and released would be one in a million. They couldn't even get the DVD from last tour out and this new album still isn't anywhere near being released.

The difference between VH and RUSH is huge. How would they do a documentary on a band that doesn't like to speak? Makes really no sense.

This will never happen. Rush is one of those bands where the members are also good friends and have been for many decades, so it's easy to sit them down and film them as they chat. Not in a million years does Eddie get involved in a project like this. Sam and Mike will be back in VH before we see a VH documentary.

On one of the recent That Metal Show episodes Eddie Trunk mentioned how many suggestions they get from fans about who to have on the show and specifically mentioned Eddie Van Halen as being requested often. He then said something like "Gee, you think? Obviously we'd like to get him on but it's just impossible." Of course there's nothing surprising about that but when he brought it up I just tried to imagine Eddie sitting there open to any questions Trunk and the others wanted to ask him. It almost made me laugh at how absurd the notion was. I simply can't even picture EVH sitting down for an uncontrolled discussion at all, especially in front of an audience. Trunk asks his guests blunt questions and even if EVH ever did show up the first thing Trunk would ask is "So, Eddie, can you please explain to us and all your fans what the deal is with Mike getting kicked out of the band and having your own teenage son replac...." - and EVH has left the building. He's like Howard Hughes at this point and getting any straight answers out of him on a TV interview or in a doc would be absolutely impossible. It will never happen.
