Default Wal-Mart cuts some health care coverage

    Oct 21, 9:56 AM EDT

NEW YORK (AP) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the nation's largest private employer, is scaling back health care coverage for future part-time workers while raising premiums for some full-time workers.

The discounter says that rising health care costs are forcing it to eliminate healthcare coverage for future part-time workers who work less than 24 hours a week. New part-time employees who average 24 hours to 33 hours a week will not be able to include a spouse as part of their health care coverage. However, their children will qualify under their plan.

The company also says full-time workers who are smokers will see their premiums substantially rise.

Wal-Mart, based in Bentonville, Ark., defines full-time workers as anyone who works 34 or more hours per week. The company employs more than 1.4 million workers.

I know that sucks for the people working part time, and some people will see this as another example of corporate greed, but I don't think this is so wrong. However, in the current political climate, I think it is a bad decision.

Most companies don't cover part time employees. However, this is also subject to state law. Here in Virginia, 30 hours a week makes you full time in regards to benefits. Therefore the part time Wal Mart employees in Virginia working between 30-33 hours a week would still have coverage, the 24-29 would no longer have it.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

This sucks because Walmart had decent insurance. Most companies I've seen lately don't offer anything except to salary employees, even full time employees won't get benefits.
    Your favorite band sucks.
