The fact that this guy is willing to drill for more OIL. I just find it really frustrating that all we do is preach about not being so dependent on oil but yet when Perry says that he will drill until he's swimming in oil, no one raises an eyebrow or anything.

Personally, I hate the idea that we have to keep drilling holes in the earth for oil when we can take full advantage of wind, solar and tidal power. But why do I get the feeling that Im barking up a tree that no one cares about?

Maybe people never see an oil company go out of business but they see green technology companies given grants by the government go under in two years.

Hey it would be great to use alternative fuels but guess what? That PC/Laptop/Mac/Ipad you are typing on comes from oil. Yep plastic. It was delivered via truck with diesel which is derived from oil. Most likely was shipped over from China on a big old ship which was either coal or diesel. It was made in a factory which their employees went to work using mass transportation via a diesel bus.

Your ISP is powered by coal and nuclear fission. The people that work there drive in automobiles using gasoline. All the equipment inside uses plastics which are once again made from oil. All the network cables sheathing are from oil. The copper in the cables are mined using large trucks which are diesel. The backup generator your ISP uses is filled with diesel fuel.

In the future it will be great using wind, solar and hydro power but it's going to take a long, long, long time to get where we need to be.

Right now we need to drill for as much oil as possible.

I think most of the preaching is about not being dependent on foreign oil.

But still, I would like to see us find ways to be less dependent on something that is of a finite supply, whether we obtain if foreignly or domestically. And we're starting to see some newer options, progress is just slow. And making them palatable and affordable is going to be slow, too.

Until then, we either ban the automobile or take care of ourselves from what's in our own ground, instead of constantly being beholden to people who would just as soon kill us.

Yeah, I'm not seeing the problem either. I think everyone is for not being dependent on any oil, but in reality, the technology isn't there. Solar, wind...any type of electric car are well behind where they need to be to be viable for the average consumer, and the only reason we see these cars in the first place is because the production and purchase are subsidized so heavily. That isn't sustainable either.

What we need to do is stop sending our money to these assholes in the middle east who are basically using it to prop up governments that go against everything America (and the West) is attempting to stop.

More supply of oil = lower $$$ for gas = more spending money = more economic stimulus = jobs = more economic stimulus. It really sets off a chain reaction that would have a dramatic impact on the economy.

Having all of that economic activity happen within the United States borders is a bonus and an incredible multiplier. Not sure why this isn't happening already. I know there are environmental concerns, and of course everyone remembers BP. No one wants that. However, even as someone who thinks government oversight usually means waste and hampered production, even I am okay with having more oversight on drilling locations. Get the shit out but do it safe.

Just announcing the intention to drill and use shale oil in the US would have an immediate impact on oil futures and would likely lower the price at the pump in a noticable manner.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

The answer in simple. Just pick a spot on the globe that is at the exact opposite of where the Middle East is, and then drill straight through the earth until we get to it. Suck it dry out from under them

I think the Keystone XL pipeline is a nice step (assuming it happens) to keep you away from the "foreign" oil thing. I know it's coming from Canada but we're not gonna attack you guys any time soon.
