Default So This Is Love vs. Footstompin' Music

There sure is alot of similarities between these two songs. I know Ed and Al have stated that Grandfunk Railroad as one of their influences but the intros to these songs are so close.

Besides the bass line in the intro, I don't hear too much in common.

You could say it's a homage, but I don't think of it as a rip off.

Now, Baluchitherium (sp?), that's a rip off.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

They had to know it was so close.
VH used to play Grandfunk Railroad songs in the clubs.

    Bet it was Mike's idea!
    Must have been a tribute.

Holy shit these songs are pretty close. The bass line is practically identical, the opening drums are the same, and even the main riff is very similar. Listen starting at :43 seconds, it's the identical riff to what Eddie plays during the chorus except its on keys. I don't think this is any accident. VH has never been the type of band to blatantly ripp off other artists I don't think...it's almost like they probably played this stuff so much in their bar days that this was somewhere in the memory bank and when they wrote So This is Love something eerily similar to Grand Funk came out. It happens a lot. It's no accident that Oasis gets accused of sounding like the Beatles...you grow up on something it's bound to come out at some point. I'm surprised Grand Funk didn't take any legal action.

I heard the Footstompin' song yesterday on the radio and even though I had heard that song many times before, I was like "holy shit this is So This Is Love."

    WTF

I think 1984, Respect The Wind and Baluchitherim
are instrumentals on the same way. Nothing else to add.

    Ok, similarities . . .

    1. the part of the bass line that's one note.
    2. the tempo
    3. drums (see tempo issue)

    Differences, everything else!
