Default The Simpsons May End After 23 Seasons

‘The Simpsons’ Faces Cancellation Over Voice Actors’ Salary
Submitted by Michael Allen on Oct 4, 2011

According to the DailyBeast.com, the longest-running sitcom in the history of TV, 'The Simpsons,' may end this spring after its 23rd season because of a salary dispute between the show’s voice actors and the Fox TV network.

Fox has asked the six main voice actors to take a whopping 45 percent pay cut. They refused and proposed a 30 percent pay cut and a small percentage of the show’s back-end profits from merchandise and syndication, which Fox turned down.

Currently, the voice actors - including Dan Castelleneta (Homer), Julie Kavner (Marge), Yeardley Smith (Lisa) and Nancy Cartwright (Bart) - earn about $8 million apiece for the 22 weeks of work per season.

An insider from the show told the DailyBeast.com: “Fox is taking the position that unless they can cut the production costs really drastically, they’ll pull the plug on new shows. The show has made billions in profits over the years and will continue to do so as far as the eye can see down the road. The actors are willing to take a pay cut of roughly a third, but that’s not good enough for Fox.”

22 seasons too many. It's had its moments, but I never found it to be that funny. Always thought they kept it on just to say that the show has been on for X number of years.

They'll get nothing this lucrative and consistent ever again.

Like Seinfeld, The Simpsons will be on TV forever.

Unlike Seinfeld, The Simpsons stayed on TV at least a decade too long.

You've never known life without the Simpsons have you?

Yeah, they've gotten a little long in the tooth, and I actually haven't been able to sit through an episode for years now, but I'd to see them make a milestone like 25 years... it would be a first.

If this ends, it will be interesting to see how these voice actors all feel when they wish they were still making a paltry ? 4.5 million a season. I'll do Moe the bartender for way less.

They are voice actors how many of your friends can do the voices? I have a buddy who can do Homer, Barney, burns, etc. They will just get scabs to do the voices sort of like of when Van Halen brings in a replacement singer. lol

I was a Simpsons geek for a while. IMHO, the best episodes were the ones from the era Conan O'Brien wrote and produced. My favorite episode was probably the one where Homer skips church and starts his own religion.

Same here. I think it was the 5th season where Homer teaches a class, monorail and Burn's casino. That whole year is pure goodness.
I would say season 3-7 were gold.

Fond memories of this show growing up, especially during middle school and early high school. It had steadily been going downhill for a while but I lost interest around 2004/05 and haven't seen very many new episodes since then. Gotta love Hans Moleman though.

Let's face it Bart has been 10 years old for 23 years and for more episodes
(I think) than there are days in the year! It was bound to get stale. I didn't
think I'd see the day where I thought Family Guy was better, but alas, all
    things must pass.

But the quality of the show now is kinda beside the point. The execs are asking
the talent that helps generate the billions in profit to basically halve their salaries.
    Fuck that with a hammer.

"Without Marge I feel totally useless. Just like David Spade without Chris Farley." Homer

Some of the funniest stuff on TV. But yeah maybe it's peaked. There's still some funny stuff on once in awhile. One of my favorite episodes was the one with Mark Cuban. That was probably from a couple years back.
