    Smartass!

OK, guess I'll interpret the query this way:

Who are the guitarists that touch a part of my soul, light a fire under my ass and I can't go for more than a week without listening to?

I'll NEVER be able to get a list of this nature down to ten, or put them in any semblance of ranking, so I'll give you 25 (technically 26, but you can't bust up the Aussie pair)...LOL!

Well, being a non-guitarist myself I dunno if I can think of that many players that have knocked me for a whallop. Ten seemed like a good round number, but by all means....go for it.

    I'll try a Top Ten:

    Ed:
gave me goosebumps, original attack style, invention, unconventional, still makes me giggle in awe

    Jeff Beck:
only guy I listen to that gets better with age

    Phil Keaggy:
from my hometown, went to school with my older brothers, my nephew married his niece,
he played a 12-string acoustic during the ceremony, had a Glass Harp reunion during his visit back home.
I asked the bride to introduce me to him during the reception, told him I was an Ed fan
He said "Aww man Eddie made me not want to play rock for a long time - Ed reinvented the instrument, set us all back."

David Gilmour: for the solo in Echoes Live at Pompeii alone

Pete Townshend: unheralded, in my list for Live at Leeds alone

Malcolm Young: the beating heart of the AC/DC classics, fucking relentless player

Angus Young: energy in the live performance and classic riffs

Jimmy Page: greatest riffs and weaving the sonic tapestry (also the influence for me to pick up a guitar so I could try to play the intro to Over the Hills and Far Awy)

Keith Richards: the oil in the engine that is The Rolling Stones

Wes Montgomery: Classic, mind-blowing craftsmanship - a true sparrow amongst cats. as he would say to brush off his playing in the jazz world

Another native Youngstowner in the house.

Didn't Jimi Hendrix supposedly tell Johnny Carson his favorite guitar player was Phil Keaggy?

    For what it's worth......from Keaggy's Wiki page......

Years later, a story would circulate widely and persistently concerning Keaggy and Hendrix. It has been said that during an episode of The Tonight Show, Johnny Carson asked Hendrix, "Who is the best guitarist in the world?" Hendrix is said to have answered, "Phil Keaggy." Another version of the story has Hendrix being asked, "Jimi, how does it feel to be the world's greatest guitar player?" To which Hendrix supposedly replied, "I don't know, you'll have to ask Phil Keaggy!" This account is sometimes attributed to a magazine interview in either Rolling Stone or Guitar Player. Occasionally the story has the setting for the question being the Dick Cavett Show. Other versions have the question being posed to Eric Clapton. A more recent variant has Eddie Van Halen being asked the question by either David Letterman or Barbara Walters. Keaggy has long insisted that such stories are completely unfounded, noting that "it was impossible that Jimi Hendrix could ever have heard me...We...recorded our first album at Electric Lady Studios two weeks after his unfortunate death, so I just canít imagine how he couldíve heard me. I think itís just a rumor that someoneís kept alive, and it must be titillating enough to keep an interest there...So I donít think it was saidÖand thatís it for that!"[6]
