I got an xt lying around here somewhere and I could only ever get it to sound like digital shit. Any details on what model he was using or settings? Maybe I'll set it up again and see what it can do.

Wish i did have his settings? I also got nothing but a digital rubbish tone from the one i tried? he has it set for a impressive VH tone for sure! i guess he used the plexi variac setting tweaked?

You couldn't get me to touch a POD like device when they first came out.
But i think they are great now.
I have a POD X3 right here on my desk.

Can you elaborate? does it have a convincing CVH tone in it?

I use a Tonelab Le. It has a couple of really nice tones in it. I tend to use the SLO model and the Plexi model with an overdrive in front and it sounds quite good, especially for just playing around the house. I never seemed to get along with the Pods, haven't tried one of the newer ones.

    I like the POD X3.

I think it has some good tones, but i also use pedals in front of it like fuzz and a whammy.

Think that's what i used on this -

I'd just like to encourage everyone who uses a Pod of any sort to get away from using it with an electric guitar amp of any kind.

Instead use a clean Hi-fidelity PA head with full range speakers.

The Pod series, with its amp modeling, is designed for ideal tone when run direct into a sound system. When you run it into a guitar amp, it may sound passable at low volume because the amp is not going to push the midrange tones until it's cranked up more. But once you do - it accentuates tones that are already accentuated by the amp modeling in the Pod. You lose the magic.

When you run it into a full range sound system that stays relatively flat in frequency response at higher volumes (at least, in comparison to a guitar amp), you keep the tone of the Pod consistent. Same goes for most digital effects units.

Amp modeling + amp = mush. Amp modeling + hi-fi PA = sweet tone.

I would tend to agree with you but only if you're using the amp models/sims. If you're just using the Pod for it's fx then I think it'll sounf fine through a regular guitar amp. I've never used a Pod but I do have a Fractal Axe FX Ultra and that sounds best either using a power amp or direct. It can be used with a guitar amp but personally, when using it that way, I prefer to bypass the amp sims because any that you use will be coloured by the actual amp you are using and won't sound authentic, I assume the same can be said for using the Pod.

When using an amp sim with an actual amp, plug the output of the sim (pod, fractalFX etc) into the FX loop return on the amp. This way you are bypassing the preamp part of your amp and just getting the power amp part.
    Should sound alot more realistic.

Yeah, I know but thanks anyway.
I don't use the Fractal live anyway, as I've not shelled out for the foot controller, I just use it for recording. Live I use a Diezel VH4, a Hardwire delay, Hardwire reverb, Digitech Whammy and thats about it. Occasionally I'll add a few other pedals but my rig is pretty simple nowadays, sometimes, for small gigs, I'll just use a Line6 Spider with no extra pedals!!!!!
