Ive been following this story since it broke yesterday afternoon. I cant begin to imagine how terrifying that must have been. And judging from what I've been reading online and the videos I've seen, it was either pilot error, mechanical failure, a mixture of both or just a random freak accident that no one may be able to explain.

My heart goes out to those affected by this.

I live in Reno and this is all over the news. It's pretty much the biggest tragedy this place has seen since a plane crashed on the strip back in the 60's. I have only lived here for 9 years and absolutely REFUSE to go to this event every year. It's the only local event I skip. There have been 17 fatalities before this since the start of the event. The 17 before this were all pilots. I won't take my kids to event where I have to explain why the plane went down, the pilot died, and they just go right on racing the next day. Horrific!

My sister and nephew were at yesterday's races and left an hour before this happened. They were sitting about 20 yards from where the plane went down. My wife is going to head out this morning to donate her A/B blood. Just bad all around.

This one is more horrifying. It's the sound that is very frightening.

Another plane went down today at an air show in Martinsburg, WV. I work in radio, just moved from Martinsburg, and actually broadcast live from this very air show last year. A lot of my friends/colleagues were there this year and have been talking on Facebook about how horrific it was to see this happen. So, so sad, on so many levels.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/0...ec3_lnk1|96485

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — No spectators were reported injured when a World War II-era plane crashed at a West Virginia air show and burst into flames on Saturday.

The crash comes a day after a stunt pilot in Nevada crashed at an air show there, killing nine. West Virginia air show officials posted a notice on their website encouraging those who witnessed the crash not to hesitate to seek support if they felt that viewing it was a traumatic event.

West Virginia Air National Guard spokesman Lt. Nathan Mueller said the T-28 aircraft crashed while it performed during a routine at the Thunder over the Blue Ridge Open House and Air Show in Martinsburg. Mueller did not have any details on the pilot's condition.

The pilot's name has not been released. A news conference has been scheduled for 6 p.m.

The fixed-wing, single-engine plane is registered to John Mangan of Concord, N.C., and was built in 1958, according to a Federal Aviation Administration registry.

The Journal of Martinsburg ( ) reports the aircraft lost control during a six-plane stunt formation and then crashed on a runway near hangers at the airfield. The plane was part of the T-28 Warbird Aerobatic Formation Demonstration Team, which performs at air shows around the country. http://bit.ly/nJ268P

The team is known as the Trojan Horsemen and its website says Jack "Flash" Mangan is part of the alternate wing. His biography on the site says he is a former Air Force fighter pilot who won three Meritorious Service Medals and Tactical Air Command's Instructor Pilot of the Year. A message left at Mangan's North Carolina home was not immediately returned on Saturday.

FAA spokesman Jim Peters said the crash happened about 2:40 p.m.
If it's BROWN, flush it DOWN.

A very horrific event that was described in too much detail by eyewitnesses and printed in our local papers. They have upped the number of fatalities to 11 today.

This is the second time we made the national news after the random shooting at IHOP that killed several people just last week.

    RIP.
