I voted for EEAS. It was a toss-up between that and Peace Sells...

This was like the discussion about 1984... I think 5150 is a great album, but it just wasn't that much of a GUITAR-focused album, especially compared to some of the other stuff on there.

Peace Sells is just a fantastic guitar record, it's hard to compare what vh/vai were doing at the time with what Mustaine was doing. Vai really kicked some ass on EEAS and Ed was moving in a different direction but still.....I love the guitar on 5150.

I think 5150 is the better album, but the guitar playing on EEAS with Sheehan and Vai was some cool stuff.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

I liked 5150 better over time, though I bought both with equal expectations. Yankee Rose was a great single with classic Dave, but It just sort of got shuffled out of my collection.
I guess I was just never a huge Vai fan. Totally respect him as an artist and player, but 5150 just had more soul, even if it wasn't typical VH.
For what tunes were weak on 5150, the title track, Good Enough, and Summer Nights make it worth a vote....At least to me.

EEAS..... No contest. Ditto regarding the respective tours.

When I saw VH on the 5150 tour, I was pleasantly surprised how well Hagar fit in the band but the overall show was a huge step down compared to any VH show I had seen previously to that point. On the other hand, when I saw Roth's solo tour, I wasn't expecting much and was blown away. I thought the EEAS show was better'n some of the classic VH shows I'd seen, especially the 1984 tour.

Ironically, I feel almost the same way, though I LOVED the 5150 show I attended.

EEAS and even the Skyscraper tour were great shows, DLR and Vai doing an acoustic set during Skyscraper was a definite highlight.

There was a lot of Big albums that year.

I voted for 5150, it changed my life musically.

For album sales it would have to be Slippery when Wet, or The Joshua Tree.

I will only say that the "Best Guitar Album" of '86 was NOT the work of VH or DLR, or Megadeth, or Metallica. And it certainly wasn't friggin' U2.

1986 is no contest. The winner is clear cut. Nothing even comes close that year. No contest.

Via is Great but on EEAS his song writing isn't spectacular. He really brings it on the guitar solos on the songs, but the rhythm guitar playing/composition (melodies of the songs) is lacking.

5150 is a better CD, I was not a fan of Sammy and I still don't care for his voice or song writing, but Edward is on top of his game on this CD. IMO it's Eddie's last great effort to date.

5150 features Eddies best rhythm playing, but I find EEAS just FUN FUN FUN to listen to.

Yep! I think Eddie really found himself on 5150 in terms of balance as a musician. It wasn't the most technically flashy album, just well played with typical Eddie style, and it wasn't the most serious either like they were trying to purposely completely change the direction with a new singer, it just took a new direction by default. It was a very solid effort on all fronts. Sure there were a couple turkeys on it. Inside was just filler, but hey....They had filler with Dave too...

I wish he never lost the mindset he had during this period.

I remember what a writer said about the first time Eddie and Sammy stepped on stage together during Farm Aid.....When he was asked to describe the vibe he felt of Eddie and Sammy's set, he responded with one word:
    "Power"
