    Default Ibanez Destroyer 2

so yesterday was my birthday and I felt lucky....

Hadnt been into many pawn shops lately, as it seemed to be very dry around here.

so, on my final stop before heading home I go into a larger chain store...Cash America Pawn, and I immediately spot a red Destroyer hanging in the midst of a bunch of crap....

when I got up close, I see like 7 autographs on the body in silver sharpie...

turns out the band that signed it is from L.A. and they are an Iron Maiden tribute band called the Iron Maidens...

They are actually really good too.

How this guitar ended up here, I have no idea. Dont know if this was actually their guitar and they signed it for a fan or what, but either way, its a bad ass guitar. I know this isnt the exact same one Ed used, but its as close as I can get.

Not sure of the timeline on the second version like I have...

got a great deal on it too..no case though...bummer

does anyone know a safe way to remove the sharpie without messing up the paint?

Some one told me crest toothpaste and a soft brush...

Ill post some pics in a while....

this thing plays like my 77 Flying V... very ballzy sound...

    Cool score!
Well...for the Sharpie, you should try an automotive polish (not a wax) like Mother's or the like that is designed to safely remove imperfections. The more aggressive but still safe ones are labeled bug&tar.

This should do the job quite nicely, but Sharpie can be pretty stubborn.
If it remains after quite a bit of elbow grease, then you may have to use a polisher with a buffing wheel and some compounds to remove all traces of the Sharpie.
Give the polish a go first though....Stay away from Turtle Wax or Armor All products. They are cheaper, but have higher levels of carrier agents which ultimately create more work in the end.

    EDIT.
You posted pics as I was typing. That should be even easier!
That looks like pretty typical silver paint marker which usually will come off with just the polish; not like black Sharpie which can leave ghosts. I've removed plenty of that stuff on poly and lacquer finishes.

I always remove Sharpie type ink with another non-perminent ink such as whiteboard marker! Simply trace over the Sharpie with it and wipe away! It may take a couple of attempts but it works for me, you can also use lighter fuel (the gasoline/petrol type)..Infact thinking about it, you could use WD-40!

Yeah....Those are good tips there Tommy! I've tried the lighter fluid, works pretty well, though I did have one instance where the paint went dark where the fluid was...Kinda weird because I've used that technique forever on vintage shellac and varnish finishes on old furnishings and bar tops to remove graffiti, and adhesive labels and tags without any issues at all.
I forgot about WD-40....but then I haven't always had luck with it, and given the mess I've been dealing with trying to get rid of a WD-40 induced mess in my mixer sliders....I'm kinda anti WD-40 now!!! lol.

I never thought about the non permanent over the permanent marker trick though. That sounds cool! Have to give that a try.

Ya, the solvents seem to be pretty similar in both, so you can lift one with the other. Another option would be a Magic Eraser. It's a slightly abrasive cleaning pad product, and if used gently with a little water, it will remove sharpie easy.

If the "Iron Maidens" ever hit it big on their own you might regret removing their signatures. LMAO, seems highly unlikely. Great score though, those guitars have a lot of attitude. I'm not good at recognizing pickups, but I wonder if it has Ibanez Super 70's in it? (if they were in the "2" to begin with)

    Much better. Nice guitar!

The Iron Maidens actually practice where my band does. I honestly have never been that impressed. They're OK, but the novelty is they are chicks playing Maiden, more than they're great musicians.

Thanks Brett...wow what a small world that is...

I think they are a decent tribute band. I agree, the guitar looks much better w/o all that crap on it.
