Awesome interview. It's too bad people have to get old and cranky (myself included LOL) and can't keep the free spirit they had when they were younger.

    I've read that before somewhere.

As with just about any old Eddie material you see or read at this point, it is both cool and depressing at the same time. You just want even a shred of the old Eddie back so bad.

    i.e.:

How long did it take to cut the first album?
Three weeks. The album is very live with no overdubs Ė thatís the magic of Ted Templeman.

Whatís your opinion of the recent state of rock and roll?
I say itís cool. Iíve never given up on rock and roll. I remember people used to say, ďAh, rock and roll is dead. Itís gone.Ē Bullshit. I donít think so. Itís always been there. Itís still the main stadium sell-out thing.

Whatís the best part? (about touring)
Ah . . . . [Laughs.] You know, the chicks, partyiní, and playiní. You just gotta take it in stride. You canít get too bombed out at night, and then you feel shitty the next day

You mentioned you only overdubbed on three songs.
Yeah. The thing is, it sounds more spontaneous that way. A lot of records sound so dull and lifeless because they sound too mechanical.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"A lot of bands mature, which means they get square; they start delivering messages. Hey, you got a message, use Western Union." -DLR

    thanks for sharing Brett
"I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone

"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and Iīve got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth

    Thanks, Jas!

I have "Masters of Heavy Metal" on my bookshelf & still pick it up from time to time (my son actually reads it now more than I do), but this new material with Eddie is the icing on the cake!

Coincidentally, I saw Pat Travers play live in a bar in Concord, CA, no more than 2 weeks ago & the set kicked some ass. When he was finished, he came off the stage walked right by me & I said "Great gig, Pat. Thanks." He was gracious & said, "You're welcome, brother, glad you enjoyed it. See ya."

Perhaps relocating from stadiums to small bars has humbled the man a touch.
Q: Recording the album took so long your Australian tour last year was cancelled. What was it like in the studio? There's a history of tension between you and Eddie Van Halen...

DLR: It was like a stand off in a Chuck Norris movie. We each had the laser dot on everybody's forehead waiting for the other guy to blink. Except for Wolfie, he had a Super Soaker ...
