Default Because we all need a laugh now and then, and this is somewhat guitar-related...

Who wants to form a Nitro cover band with me????!?!?!?!?!

But seriously, did anyone really believe that clown played those solos on a 4 neck guitar????????? WOW.

In his defense, Michael Angelo (Batio) is actually a pretty nice guy and he really can play the guitar like that. I don't think he's that great of a composer, but he can shred, shred, shred!

He lives in Chicago now. I met him one time when a band I was in went on before his band at a festival. Before we went on, I noticed on the marquee that the band after us was billed as "C-4 Featuring Michael Angelo Batio." I wondered if that was the same as Michael Angelo from Nitro (Get it? "Nitro" and "C4"?), and sure enough, while we were playing, in walks Michael Angelo The World's Fastest Guitarist.
He walked over to stage right, where I was, and stood just offstage watching me play. It made me a little self-conscious, for sure. We talked for a while between sets, and he was very cool. He's very level-headed about his part in the music world. He specializes in shredding, and he knows it pays the bills, so that's what he does. He doesn't act like he's cooler than anyone. I liked that about him.

Jim Gillette, the Nitro singer, looks like a complete idiot in those videos. I heard he's married to Lita Ford now, so maybe he's okay.

More Michael trivia before I quit: He's bald. Nerdy, male-pattern-baldness bald. Not shaved-head-macho bald.
Metal Sludge interviewed him once, and they asked him if that was his real hair. Michael said, "My hair is 100% mine, and I have the receipt to prove it." You gotta like that.

That's a cool story about MAB!

I blame the marketing guys and labels more for this kind of product. It's good to know he doesn't really buy into the whole image shown above.

I think the reason I find this band so hilarious is that they were clearly trying to do one thing, and one thing only: out Van Halen Van Halen, out Motley Crue Motley Crue, and so on. And other than the musical side of things, they did, as ridiculous as it may be! BIGGER hair than DLR, FASTER playing than Ed, more ridiculous drummer than Tommy Lee... etc. They became almost an ultimate caricature of the 80's hair metal band.

And lets face it, when you have the Hulk on drums and he's headbutting the cymbals, I'll give you a few awesome points

In that second video, the singer dude looks like Tony Little.

I was waitin' for him to jump on an ab machine or something.

Sounds like Michael is a cool dude. Cool story.

But watching that first video, reminds me that I don't miss the 80s all that much.

Made it 0:28 into the first one, 0:48 into the second one.

    Jeez, they suck.

I think a remember a ballad by them, Coming Home or something like that, that wasn't that bad.

I think the singer was married to Lita Ford at one time.

Edit: yep, here it is. At least this is listenable.

I was doing some digging around on the tube, and I found this Michael Angelo studio tour. It's cool. Lots of guitars. But the thing I like best about it is what you see behind the scenes. It's obviously an average (pretty nice) house in the suburbs of Chicago somewhere. You can imagine Michael waking up and saying "The Guitar World guys are coming today. Better run the vacuum around and put on the wig and the leather jacket."
To me, as a working musician, Michael's got the lifestyle I would consider an absolute win. He's got a nice house with a bunch of gear and guitars in the basement and he's done it all through playing music. You can keep the limos and the private jets. I'll take the nice house in the 'burbs.

I also met him about 15yrs ago at a Guitar Clinic. He was super nice offering advice and chatting with people that had come to see him play (he was endorsing the Washburn MG range of guitars at the time). He even tried to negotiate a discount for me on a Washburn N4 (I didn't get one but I still bought the guitar anyway). One thing that I thought was great was, while he was playing he looked super serious about what he does, then, when he's talking to people afterwards, he's really self depricating and funny as hell.

I'm not a fan of his playing or his chosen style of music, but as a guy he's a great example of a working guitar player.

I saw him at a clinic, too. Very good player, seemed like a nice guy. Admitted the 2 neck guitar was a gimmick, but it was fascinating watching him play it.

    Bullshit.

That shit sucked, a lot of good stuff came from the 80's. You're 28 I wouldn't expect a kid who was in diapers to like any of it though. But I bet you like Nirvana.
