Default Sammy laughing at Van Halen

    http://www.billboard.com/news/sammy-...05325392.story

"I'm so disappointed in those guys," Hagar notes. "I'm not even angry. I'm just disappointed. I really don't like them anymore, and I can't tell you how sad it is to me that what we had as creative guys, and as a friendship, how it just went away. Mike and I had the biggest laugh when they canceled (the Soundwave Festival in) Australia. He was like, 'I thought you told me they had canceled a couple months ago,' and I was, 'No, no, I told you they announced it.' 'Oh, they announced it,' and we just cracked up. They kill me."

I can't say I blame him but can't these guys just grow up and do their own thing. That said it wouldn't surprise me if the VH CD is now being delayed because of tour issues and it could become just one big fiasco.

I'm brand new here even though I've been browsing this forum for years.

I hate to start off with something snarky but when I read this quote my first thought was "Are people seriously going to continue defending this band?" I mean really, I'm neutral on the whole Sammy/Dave thing, I like them both but he continues to get asked about VH and I don't think he's saying anything that tons of VH fans aren't already feeling. I just can't quite understand how a band that was probably the biggest in America for 20 years could be this amateurish. Monkeys running the joint would be an improvement. It's hard not to laugh.

Having said that, I didn't join here to bash them, I freakin' love their music and will always appreciate how much fun they've provided me over the years (I bought my first guitar, a Kramer Focus, shortly after I bought Live Without a Net just because I wanted to have something similar to Eddie) but the reality of what they've been the last 12-15 years is just comical.

Still hoping for a new album someday, though.

But the point is he's bringing up the Soundwave cancellation, which VH did not cause.

Yep, he's a working musician having a chuckle at some guys he used to know, an entertainer who let's his fans in on what he's doing, and knows how to keep his name in the media, which helps keep him relevant and his fans in the loop.

Anyone in VH is more than welcome to speak up about anything really, we'd all welcome it. (even Sammy)
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

Oh I know, you're right as far as we know that it's not their fault. I was just speaking generally about the perception of them now. I just think they're like a cartoon character with a black cloud following overhead, it seems like even if it's not their fault crap continues to happen around them. They used to have the Midas Touch and now they have a form of contagious bad luck.

Anyway, no harm intended, it was just meant in good fun. I really am rooting for them and any resentment or frustration I have towards them is only because it seems like such a waste.

Sammy has to mention VH to remain relevant. He should take the high road but it seems to me that he must continue to bash VH to stay in the news.

Well that's the sad part is music is as much about marketing as it is the music. There are a lot of bands out there noone has ever heard of because they don't get involved in the BS. My cousin being one.

Thing is neither VH or Chickenfoot is really relevant these days. Mass marketed music has changed so much and is such garbage I wish these guys would just concentrate on the music. That's ultimately what is important at this point. These guys made their money.

Thing is I like Chickenfoot for what it is and just the sound of it. I wish it was Eddie playing guitar and Alex on drums but what can you do. Sammy doesn't really need this BS. I don't know why he's doing it, other than maybe he wishes Eddie was on guitar and Alex was on drums because it would be the best possible music.

I think with Sammy it's more than just remaining relevant. I don't think Sammy cares about that. I don't think VH does either really. Why it's kind of sad.
