Just in case it hasn't been posted yet MelodicRock.com has an article saying PLANET US was not included on the Spiderman soundtrack because their songs are too heavy... Apparently this info originated from Neil Schon.
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

I think that was a nice way of saying "not commercial enough". I saw the video for SUM 41's song and if they'll accept a bullshit song like that-they should've accepted Planet US!

I agree with ya, FanHalen! The "commercial" perspective that record companies have makes me want to hurl. Remember the days when record companies had pride, dignity and respect for music of all types, regardless of the bubblegum factor? *sigh* I look forward to the days when record co.'s are done.

    I digress...

I think Planet US would have been a big bonus for the Spiderman soundtrack -- a lot of us would have had the morbid curiosity required to buy the CD and suffer through some fluff in order to get to new material from VH brethren.

I hope Planet US whips out a live performance on Saturday. Better yet, I hope someone is there to capture even just a snippet in MP3 form.

I've been following the Spider-Man movie for awhile, and the only people who said that Planet Us might be on the soundtrack, was Planet Us. I think Neil Schon is full of it, this project reeks of cockrock like Damn Yankees. Ah, then again maybe I'm just being bitter because I hate Neil Schon and bummed Slash isn't playing, lol.

Yes, I also think you're right, VB. I think FanHalen posted the track list for the Spiderman soundtrack over in Non-Music and A'smith was given credit for doing the Spiderman theme.

I know they did a pretty good job of "I Love Trash" on "Elmopalooza"...I'd bet they do OK on this one too!

I think that Planet Us wasn't included because the record company probably only wanted to have today's hot bands on it. That shit band Sum 41 is more popular than The Red Rocker and Journey. The younger crowd will recognize the current bands and probably buy it. But now it seems like most of the songs on movie soundtracks aren't even in the movie, so what's the point?

There could be several reasons why Planet Us is not on the soundtrack. The most obvious one is that their songs suck. Sammy Hagar hasn't done anything decent since 1973. Neil Schon? This guy has no balls. I am sure that these 2 are the primary song writers. I very seriously doubt that it is "too heavy" for the soundtrack.

I am sure it will be "power pop". Just listen to the shit these 2 clowns have put out for the past 25 years. Sammy is the architect of this band. Neil Schon has been a yes man for 20+ years and has no back bone. This group will sound like a poorly played Van Hagar.

Maybe they meant the band members were too heavy, not the music.

Alexander Mogilny, what the hell are you talking about???? Sammy hasn't done anything good since 1973? Please! Hagar was good with Van Halen. 55, There's Only One Way to Rock, etc were also some good rock tunes when he was solo. Great? No, not great, but Sammy can play and he can at least be a human being, unlike that yo-yo fuck Roth. Roth is a dinkus.

Next time, before you open your yap and say stupid things, try to think a little bit, you knuckle fuck.
