    Yeah, Van Halen was great.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

I'm a little confused by Chad's account. The triple bill of Montrose/Journey/VH would have been in what year? I was under the impression that VH didn't tour nationally until around the time of their first album but Sammy was out of Montrose by 1975, right?

I assume those rolly eyes are intended for me. I’m not picking on Chad and it would have been a cool fact of rock history if a Sammy led Montrose and VH shared a stage. I just didn’t think that it actually happened which is why I’m asking the question....and I'm asking it honestly because I don't know the answer.

Funny how Van Halen's peers (even Sammy) comment on just how much VH did for rock music and so many writers and such have panned them over the years.
To me VH kicked disco's ass in the late 70's like Nirvana ruined rock for so many years in the early-mid 90's.

Sammy left Montrose in 1975. Unfortunately, that dream billing never occurred. At least not in 1978.

Sam played some festivals that VH played back in '78, I think it was overseas. I distinctly remember reading that, somewhere.

Montrose/Journey/VH DID happen in '78 as well, it just wasn't a Sammy-led Montrose. I believe that was the Bob James era of the band, but who knows?

Small world though, when you really think about it. VH crossed the paths of Sam's old band (a band VH themselves emulated in their club days) AND Sammy himself on their first tour. Pretty cool fact

Nirvana didnt ruin rock, rock ruined rock. But it needed to happen either way. Things are somewhat better now though.
