    Default Acoustic Guitar Songs

Every week my friends and I get together and play acoustic guitar at one of our houses. We have at least a couple of guitar players at any given time playing, a singer (or two), and someone handling percussion.

We play some of the same songs every week, and someone always brings new songs they have been working on to try with the group. Some of the songs work great, and some don't (for our lager number of guitar players).

What are some of your favorite acoustic guitar tunes that work great with several guitars?

Oh man, I'm almost sure you're doing this one already. No matter how many times I play it I never tire of it. LZ, Over The Hills And Far Away. I'll even play it using the 12 string neck on my (Epi) SG doubleneck. Not technically an acoustic but sounds great nonetheless. Speaking of LZ, if you've got the alternate tuning down pat I'd say The Rain Song would be great for a bunch of people to strum along to. So many other great LZ songs (especially on LZIII) which are played on acoustic on the albums or would translate well to acoustic. I'm not going to mention the obvious song from LZ 4/Zoso. I think there's still a 10 year ban on mentioning the name of that song due to extreme overuse/overplaying. (shhh, but I still play that one also using the doubleneck)

this one is great to bash out on an acoustic.....

and if you can get people beating on this along to the rythm of the song or singing along it's even better.

    great suggestion.
And, my screen name is all about that very Movie/Record. My parents met at a movie theatre after they'd both just seen the film. My Mum had gone by accident and hated it and my Dad was (and still is) an enormous Who fan and loved it, they bumped into eachother, fell in love, got married and then produced my twisted self! They're still together after all these years too
Anyway, that explains my screen name! (odd twist for a tread link this)

Back to songs: How about Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits?....it's actually pretty easy once you're in the correct tuning.

    Great story tommy.

Love the suggestions so far. We do play Zepp's OTHAFA, great song. We haven't played PBW in a LONG time, might have to dust that one off again. I am not familiar with Dire Straits' Romeo and Juliet. I'll have to YT that one.

    Keep the suggestions coming.

    Thanks!

Thin Lizzy/ Damon Johnson (Damon covered it)- Borderline. I also heard a guy cover Rush's Subdivisions on acoustic as well that was awesome...

Download Romeo Juliet by Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler and then try to find another version of that by Monte Montgomery. You won't be able to play the MM version but it has a great 4 minute solo on acoustic. Both are great songs.

How about some Eagles? Hotel California has a few different guitars.

Here is a different twist and you can go various ways depending on the technical ability of the guitarists. Learn some "classical" pieces but play them like a string quartet. Pachabel Canon would be easy to learn. Stuff like that.

Yeah! I've always loved Townshend's acoustic work.
For an acoustic Who tune, Love Ain't For Keepin' off of Who's Next is one of my favorites and works great for two players.

Behind Blue Eyes is a classic that everyone should know too. A lot of The Who's stuff works great on acoustic because Pete often wrote the tunes on one!

also check out a band called Bowling For Soup, they're a fun 'Pop Punk' band and much of their stuff works on acoustic, infact Jaret and Erik often do an acoustic tour of their stuff. most of the songs are pretty funny too.
