Default This is the essence of cool imo

Just a few live vids from the hagar era.

I love the energy of Hagar era Van HAlen. They just seemed so just healthy and happy to be alive in these vids and the energy was just really positive. I also think Live they were on a whole other level and at their best. The quality of the sound is amazing. I love the sound of those ernie ball and peavey guitars eddie used. Hagar as much as he is maligned for his lyrics has written a lot of great tunes too.

Van Hagar was such a detour from the hard edged just raw sound of the original, but it was so cool in it's own way.

And here's feels so good. Probably one of the most uplifting feel good songs VH has ever written.

I remember the first time I watched the Tokyo Dome concert. Blew my freaking mind.

Love those song choices too. "Mine All Mine" really comes alive when they play it live, especially the chorus. Eddie's playing really shows off his rhythm chops.

"Not Enough" on Letterman I've seen many, many times. It really says "mature Van Halen" to me, anyway. Because it seemed like they were headed to new heights come Balance, the tone of the music, the themes, all of it. "Nice going gentlemen" indeed.

As for the Dallas show - I always give props to that poor motherfucker who hung off that lampost for however many hours VH played for. A nice thing for them to do, to play free shows for a town they had to cancel on.

I hear you man. Great choices and some great eras of "Van Hagar" there. RHRN doesn't really compare to that stuff.
If I told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about what I've gone through over the last 20 odd years, what it took to finally get where I am, people just wouldn't fucking believe it. So it's pointless. I now realize that I can't change people's minds, and I really don't want to or need to try. I'm at peace with it, and that's all that matters. - Edward Van Halen

here's a couple more a really like. You've probably seen all these lol, but they are still awesome. I watch these from time to time. I find them again later on and they still blow my mind.

I could go on. I'm looking for good versions of Right Now, Don't Tell me and 5150. Judgement Day, When it's love, Why can't this be love. etc lol. Get up, AFU, Sucker in a 3 piece, Source of Infection. All this stuff is so great. 5150 off live without a net is a great version.

Great music all of it. I honestly don't think there is a VH song that isn't amazing pre 1996.

These are all great vids. RHRN is just unwatchable for me. It is so poorly filmed and presented that it gives the wrong impression of the band I think. Mine All Mine was just stellar live every time I saw them play it. I love how Ed starts out on piano for Not Enough and then jumps up and throws a guitar around his neck and doesn't miss a beat.

Dude, thanks for sharing your favorites - great selections. I really like the Hamburg concert from 1993. Everyone spot one - great instrumentals, great backup vocals by Mike AND Ed, great energy and chemistry:

I will never forget the night me and my brother came home with the 'Live Without A Net' dvd. Not long before that i saw the video for 'Why Can't This Be Love' shown randomly on Kerrang. Great footage and i always loved the guitars Sammy and Eddie used. Looked so cool and made me want to be a 'rocker' more than ever.

About as close to the album version that you're gonna get. Very good.
