Default Who has more to prove - Eddie or Dave

I think they both have a lot to prove - can Eddie still be innovative or will he just repeat his old tricks? I think if the producers had a lot of input on the recording, he will come out much better than relying on his own ideas, I think he needs someone to direct, push and challenge him. Can Dave still sing, or will they have to rely on vocal effects? Can he still write, or will his lyrics come off to cheesy for 2011? I think Dave has the most to prove.

Cool, an Eddie vs. Dave thread!

Eddie. He's obviously in control of anything and everything we end up hearing.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, ďTokyo Dome In Concert,Ē is available for purchase, and itís super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

Ed has the most to prove... because we all know he is in control. I doubt Dave had much input into this record with the exception of lyrics. Hopefully, Ed allowed other ideas in, or this could be another III.

Q: Recording the album took so long your Australian tour last year was cancelled. What was it like in the studio? There's a history of tension between you and Eddie Van Halen...

personally, i dont think either one has anything they need to prove. There is only one Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth. If they never made another record, their catalog of music is some of the best music in my opinion. Lets face facts there is nobody that can get the guitar to speak the way he makes it speak and dave? Well dave is dave. lol

I've never gotten the feeling David Lee Roth lives or dies by the success of his music. If it flops, he'll do something like take off to the Congo and learn how to take down wild boar with a blow dart. No biggie.

Eddie seems to wrap up his identity in the music. As in, "If the people don't like it, they don't like me." I present VH III as evidence.

That's not to say DLR is ho-hum and will phone in his part. He'll put himself into it, I'd guess. But at the end of the day, he realizes the album is a collection of songs and not a part of his soul. Apropos of nothing, I've long admired Dave because of that personality trait.

Ed and Dave together, with Al and Wolf of course.

They have to make this Van Halen make us forget all the other Van Halens that came before.

If they don't push the new material on the next tour, I'm gonna have to prove I give a flying F#@K anymore. I think The Cars played six new songs on their tour promoting Move Like This... six! Confidence means that sometimes you don't need to prove shit.

It's 95F in Ohio, I'm drinking cold beers in the shade by the rubber duck and I hope that made sense.

Eddie, without a doubt. Whether you like it or not, it is a fact that Dave proved to be replaceable (I'm not saying that the replacement was superior, just that Dave WAS replaced and the band carried on); without Edward, the band "Van Halen" has no legitimacy - it has always been and always will be Ed that has to prove himself - if he balls it up, the entire band balls it up irrespective of their individual performances.
    I'm FEMALE...Deal with it!

    Maybe Ed.

I don't think any of them will have trouble
sounding great on a new album. The thing that I wonder is
how good will the tunes be. I don't worry about performance. They will likely be fantastic in that regard. Can they write some great songs still? Will any actually be successful beyond the diehard fanbase? Something I'd like to see them prove is that they wrote a tune that has wings beyond the initial push.Id be happy with a good solid album but something bigger would do a lot for VH. Maybe a side point but Ed's a composer as well as a guitarist.

I know that many of you here would disagree with this sentiment, but I couldn't agree with it more. Van Halen has already proven or achieved the status most bands just dream about. They have already provided a worthy soundtrack to my life and at this point I can't wait to listen to what else they have in store for us.
