Default EVH Charvel (RB&W) vs. EVH Wolfgang Sp. (White-Japanese)

    Not a great pic but...

OK, I bought an EVH Charvel a couple of years ago. Last year I picked up an EVH Wolfgang special (Japanese). Both purchased for about the same price (I got the Charvel used but it was in new condition). I play both guitars everyday, and I must say, the EVH Charvel is a far better guitar. The EVH Charvel sounds better (very brown soundish), plays better, and just overall feels better.

I had high hopes for the EVH Wolfgang but it just doesn't have the same warmth or playability as the Charvel. Also, the pickup selector switch is jacked on the EVH Wolfgang now and I can only use the bridge pickup. I don't like how close the high E string is the bottom of the neck, and I never really like the position of the pickup selector switch (gets in the way of tapping, etc.)

I thought I would share my findings with you all after extensive expermentation with both guitars. The EVH Charvel (imho) is the better of the 2 EVH guitars I own.

I didn't know there were Japanese Peavey Wolfgang Specials. Yours looks like a white American Wolfgang Standard. The Korean EXP's were all quilt tops as I recall.

Wow! Good to know. I never picked up one of those Charvels. I have tried the Wolfgang Specials from time to time, and really don't like them too much with the exception of one being quite good. Most just seemed kinda dead. Like the balance of them, but overall the sound and playability was less than inspiring, and yeah...what the hell is up with the high E string? I find it tries to fall off the board with any exaggerated vibrato.
Aside from it being a VH collectible, would you recommend the EVH Charvels?
I see some going for much less than the original retail online from time to time.

I know they were spendy brand new but if it was around a grand, I'd probably be interested in one if it played and sounded well...

Another question since I'm not well versed on Charvels...

Is the newer USA production series an Art Series without all the stripes and a second humbucker???

Basically yes. Although I think the USA ones are made overseas actually now, not here.

That's kinda what I gathered... I looked at their order deal on the website and it said carefully crafted in Japan... The reviews on GC and MF sites seemed to be pretty positive... They don't look like too bad of a deal for $900 to $1K... Don't even know why I'm lookin' at guitars... I got a perfectly good Wolfie... Sorry to derail the thread...
