Default Scored an '83-'84 Kramer Pacer: Pics and a Poll...

I'd been after this guitar for a few years now. A friend of mine was given this guitar years ago, he never played it, but due to sentimental reasons did not want to sell it. Lucky for me, I lent his brother my practice/small gig amp. This guy heard it, loved it, and offered a straight up trade. As you can see, I agreed.

I haven't cleaned it up yet, it's still got all the dirt and grime it was given to me with. I'm stoked about the original Floyd on it. Not so stoked about the holes underneath it. It's got Duncans in it, not sure which ones though. It did come with the original Schaller pickups; are those any good? The body is really heavy! Easily the heaviest of all my guitars.

So here's my question: Isn't this Pacer body what the 5150 was made out of? I know the control cavity route is different, but is the overall body shape correct? The top horn looks a little thin to me. If I decide to paint this 5150 style I could fill all those holes/routes I don't need before painting.

Anyways, see the poll for some options I've got for this guitar, and let me know what you think!

    Please dont.

Yes it's the same bodyshape as the 5150, but the extra pickup just doesn't make the 5150 job look too good imo.

Plus, that Pacer is in great shape with a little cleaning.

Yeah, the neck and Floyd are the highlights of the guitar for me.

It won't turn into a 5150. I'll keep it as is. May swap the neck onto my Frankie for a while, but it'll find it's way back home eventually.

Cool score. Its a great color.

Whats the deal with the white tape around the pickups??? I'd peel that off and then leave as is...

Don't touch it. My Pacer Imp is close in number, C0111.

WTF is with those holes and the tape on the pickups? Weird. Why do people do that shit and ruin guitars? Try to remove that for sure.

Those definitely aren't stock pickups, most early Imperials had Schallers. Mine did, I switched them out to Duncans years ago.

Maple necks are rare on Imperials, it's a nice find. And if it's that heavy, chances are it's a maple body too. I had a maple '85 Imperial made of maple, it was just too heavy. I sold it.

That's a sweet score. I wouldn't change anything major on it you can't undo.
You can easily buy a body etc to stripe up and make a franky or 5150 etc.
Would be a shame to "destroy" that 80's classic when you don't need to.
Whatever makes you happy is obviously what to go for but again
they don't make em anymore and it's easy enough to buy clone parts to make a EVH guitar.

I had a rosewood Imperial beak neck and it had schallers and was as heavy as a boulder. And you are correct Brett, maple necks are rare on any Kramer.

Ed had at least two of his own two pickup Pacers...you could fill the holes and refinish the guitar in the image of one of his. Check out the Zloz book for pics or I'm sure jimi or one of the guitar gurus here would post some pics...

Mine has to be Maple then. It's as heavy as heck! And again, don't worry, I've decided not to stripe it up.

Are the original Schaller pickups any good? They're sitting in it's case.
