    5150III Micro

Any updates on the 51510III Micro or Mini or whatever it's called? It was supposed to come out this month. Is it still on track, or will this be another D2H?

Interesting. Pardon my ignorance but what's the micro's specs?
The 5150 combo was a behemoth of a combo though a nice amp.
    What's the micro?

It is just a head, right, or are they offering (planning to offer) a smaller cab or a full on combo as well? I'd be into this. I hope it does come out. It seems to fit in the same category of the Orange Tiny Terror , and Vox Night Train style of amp, but a higher gain alternative, though I saw an ad yesterday for a high gain VHT micro amp too. I Actually really like the Tiny Terror. Nice vintage tone out of that little amp too.
Anyway some specs would be cool. The YouTube NAMM clip was ok, but I'd like to see some different sounds than what the dude was playing through it.

    Default Gross!

no disrespect intended, but that does not sound ANYHTING like the "brown sound"
ed's sound has ( in my humble opinion) drifted more toward metal ( cold tone) no soul

    Just not into that sound......

Eh, I think the "brown sound" is about 90% player and 10% gear.

Ah that's right. I remember now seeing this before when the namm vids
were first posted. Duh! Lol Pretty sweet, would be great for smaller gigs. I wonder
if it has an effects loop?? I'm guessing it does since he said it's the same besides the size, wattage, etc
Very cool amp. I dig the Fender 3 amps and generally a fan of the entire 5150
    series of amps.

    You make a good point.
    Normally, I would totally agree
except evh's tone has been totally different in the past 10 yrs.
Feels like he has drifted to higher gain more n more
This new amp seems to continue in that direction.
Just not my cup of tea....
I would love something in the way of vh2 meets 5150 for sound / tone

FYI don't mistake that amp for any of the other micros out there. It's a full 50 watt head, and is practically just as heavy as the regular size 5150.

And, I totally agree that the 'brown' is in the hands of the player.

It should be a great amp, but that demo does it no justice whatsoever, makes it sound pretty bad really. Yes I agree, your sound is in your hands. I sound pretty much the same no matter what I play through, just some gear makes me sound better than others, or makes it easier for me to play better. I would love a 5150 III combo though. I'd buy one tomorrow if they made it available...a small combo, not the 90lb monster that Peavey made.

They should be shipping this month, priced at $999 MSRP

The cabs are are 1x12 and 2x12 and are shipping in august/september

price quote i got was like $349 and $499 respectively.

been asking my local dealer about these since January, and thats where it stands right now. EVH Gear/Fender just need to ship em out.

It's too bad they don't come out with a small low wattage 5150 with some versatility like channel switching, built in reverb, separate gain for each channel, etc... for the bedroom players and occasional small gig type situation. Not everyone needs 50 watts at their disposal... Hell, my Peavey 5150 combo has never needed to have the gain on the lead channel past 4 and the volume past 3 1/2. It's louder than hell at those levels... Give us a little 5 or 8 watt version, please...

I'm on board with that as well- it's Ed's gorilla-sized hands punishing the strings, literally beating the tone out of them in the early days. I'd say more specifically it is his picking hand getting most of that mojo.

Gear-wise I think there are rare times you can hear it, that 20% (or 10%) if you will. For instance, on one of those Rockstah Mod 5 amps if any player just hits an A chord or perhaps does the opening chords to YRGM (something simple to keep the player's ability out of the equation) you get that first VH record sound from the amp. In most other cases, when someone posts a youtube vid and says check out my brown sound, if it sounds great it is because of their playing ability. As long as they keep the gain down fairly low for most of the early stuff the sound of the gear is neutral. I almost have to laugh when I see a vid of someone trying to play BOBW (not brown sound to begin with of course) with the gain cranked to a death metal level.

I hope those demos...don't do the amp justice.....because that should don't sound anything like the Brown sound.....more like metal.....I found 1 website that has the amp and cabs listed.....no pics....people who do demos on EVH stuff friggin kill me....Get a EVH amp and demo with some kind of metal riffs...how stupid....you think they would have at least play in the style of EVH.......Here is the link http://gearhounds.com/evh-amp.aspx
