Default The PR machine is rolling...LOL...

Gosh, about two hours ago, the PR machine kicked into high gear... They updated their facebook page with:

Looking forward to seeing everyone at our only Australian shows this year!

They are now officially masters of social media...

One would think with Ed's PR wife, they would be getting a little better grasp on this whole facebook/twitter/etc... thing... They could have so many people eating from their hand including most of the sheep here but I guess they choose not to...

I said in a previous thread that they must have the philosophy that if their fans expect nothing and get just a little bit, then they'll be really happy. I guess keep the expectations really low so no one gets disappointed... Playing to lose instead of to win... Not the VH I thought I knew from way back in the day... Too damned sad...

The new album might be tremendous, but I think it's entirely possible that no one, not even Dave, will do one second of press or promotion, nothing. Other than that press conference in 07, did anyone associated with the band do any pr? I can't think of anything. It's actually pretty strange. The only press Eddie does these days is to promote his EVH Gear, he never ever talks about VH the band.

I wonder if theres a album launch like they did for "VHIII" 13 years ago. They might do a hour set maybe, a few new songs and some oldies.

Facebook is cheaper to use than 10 PR staffers. Welcome back to music fellows. After all it is what you do best.

Hard to say with 3 songs in 13 years. They may have completely forgotten how to write.

Did they need to though? Sure, it's cool for us to hear from them, but they didn't have any trouble filling entire arenas last tour.

Look at VH's PR legacy and you'll see it hit a crescendo in 1998 for VH III. They did meet and greets, tv interviews, radio interviews, merch signings, promotional CD packets, etc.

And it fell hard. Really hard.

I'm not saying that I like it, but when you look at it from their perspective it's hard to blame them.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

It would be cool if they did Rockline or whatever is currently the big radio album launch media is now. I used to love their interviews B.C. on Rockline back in the 80's and early 90's.

I think they always had the mindset to stay mysterious. I remember Alex Van Halen saying something to the effect "Would Led Zeppelin do that?" In regards to making some kind of public appearance for something. Zep always tried to keep the mystique, granted that was a totally different time period and world. You'd think they'd keep people just a little bit in the loop. It seems like they just don't care, not that they're supposed to and I'm not going to hold anything against them. They've earned the right to do and act whatever they want, you'd just think they'd be a little more open and cool with their fans. Dave always called the the "People's band," but even with Dave back it doesn't seem like that now.

Anyone remember the one Westwood radio interview, I think it was with Sammy, and Eddie called in to the show, but had to go back out to his car to listen because he couldn't pick up the station in the house?

VH grossed $93 million on the 07-08 tour with little PR. I agree with this post.

It's all been said, really. Other than announcing a tour/album, not a whole lot of PR needed. It would be great if these guys had the business/PR savvy of, say, Sammy Hagar. The marketing blitz for Chickenfoot's debut was pretty damn solid.

But really, the numbers don't lie - they've had plenty of success with very little PR support. PR support would really just be gravy at this point.

The bright side is that at least we have an official confirmation of the Aussie tour dates. Now we just need some confirmation of music...I'll take that via Facebook. I'm tired of looking for a message in my morning bowl of Alpha Bits.
The song ain't dirty it's really just the way we sing it...

This is true, but the question is, can that success continue? The "freshness" of Dave being back in VH was gone over four years ago, the newspapers don't have much to write about and word probably won't spread as fast.

Basically this isn't news that's writing itself. If Van Halen wants good sales/attention, they really need to promote it themselves.
