Fascinating interview. I learned more about VH in that 15 minutes than I have from reading all the guitar magazines for the last 25 years. Seems like Eddie's approach is a lot more straightforward than most people are willing to believe, no magic boxes or super secret amp mods, just his fingers. Very interesting insight into the VH brothers, thanks for posting.

So guys, case disclosed (I always wanted to know that!!!):

This is the guy who made Ed leave the Bradshawn rig and start using that huge pedalboard we know from since the III tour!!!

Some people say that his "weird" whacky tone came from this. But IMHO, the III tour tone was amazing and much better compared to his tone of nowadays, so probably it's not the pedalboard's fault.

We have to remember that, since 2004, he stopped using the harmonizer, he changed his amps and some even say his hearing is trashed.

    Incredible post!!!

From Ed's heart to his head to his hands.

Well, there were some years where his head was pretty messed up and that was the disconnect.

Now that his head is in a much better place, I'm thinking this new album is going to be good.

"I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone

"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and Iīve got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth

Great interview. Nice to see someone not trash Ed as a human being and also give much deserved respect to the underrated genius of Al.

Awesome. Had seen this recently and didn't stay with it as I didn't know he talked about Van Halen, as I had no idea he was their engineer on VHIII.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!
