The Bally Astrocade was very cool but extremely rare. I had one when I was 9. Despite the quality being better than the Atari 2600, few people had them so no one else knew how to play the games or use the funky pistol-grip controller.

These are all my votes so far. The original Atari console and Pitfall will allways be dear to my heart. GOD, I played that game for DAYS on end.

Damn logs. LOL BTW, he's going the wrong way in this shot.

BUT, while it wasn't out on a home system at the time, THE game I got HOOKED on back then was Tempest. Man, what fun that game was / is...

My favorite arcade games that either weren't out right away on home consoles or just weren't as good on console were Centipede and Asteroids. Both of those were money at the arcade.

ATARI 5200 (at least while the controllers worked) -

    Pac Man
    Ms. Pac Man
    Missile Command
    Defender
Jungle Hunt (which sounds an awful lot as what you describe for PitFall, but I swear what I had was called Jungle Hunt!)
Um, can't remember if I had Space Invaders - pretty sure I did

Then there was another one with tanks and you had to get targets and when you did you got a letter and when you got the correct letters there would be a wolf on a hill?

Pretty sure I had a baseball game, too.

No kidding! Those 5200 controllers failed if you looked at them the wrong way.

Yes, Pitfall and Jungle Hunt were similar games. Jungle Hunt had four individual levels and the screen scrolled through each adventure (swinging from vines and diving into the river, the river swim with crocs, the boulder bounce level, and saving the girl from the savages), while Pitfall was all variations of the same thing (getting from one edge of the screen to the other). The screen changed once you reached the other side.

I think the tank game I was thinking of was "Countermeasure"

And how could I forget "Super Breakout"?

Hard to imagine how we could be happy for hours with just simple graphics! I'd still play any of those games in a heartbeat, but I don't have the patience for the new breed of games for the most part.
