    Default NHL 2011 Off-Season Thread

Unfortunately, the time is upon us for the time in between seasons.

The Wings should be getting word this week about Lidstrom's future plans which will no doubt make a huge impact on what defensemen they go get. It's also looking like Draper and Ozzie aren't coming back.

The Predators filed for arbitration to hold onto Weber not surprisingly as will the Devils for Parise and Kings for Doughty.

It'll be interesting to see where Bryzgalov ends up. Will he sign in Philly? And what of Nabokov?

    Where does Stamkos go? Richards?

Next years Eastern Conference is pretty obvious in most cases:

Pitt - Obviously it's all about Crosby. His health will impact the conference more than anything that goes on. It'll probably be theirs to lose.

Philly - Give that team a legit goalie and they'll be a bitch to beat. If they get one I can easily see them in the conf finals.

Wash - Who knows. They'll be in the mix but it's just a matter of whether or not they actually figure out how to get through two rounds. I'm done predicting them to go far. I'll believe it when I see it.

Boston - Tyler Seguin. More than anything I'm very anxious to see how much bigger his role is. He better play a regular shift on a top line every night. As far as the team goes I expect a Stanley Cup hangover big time. These guys are burnt out. They may not wake up until January.

Montreal - They scare me next year.

Toronto - No more excuses. They need to be a playoff team next year.

Tampa Bay - What are their plans for a goalie? They going with Roloson again?

New Jersey - Need help on this one, Crash. Brodeur again?

Rangers - Is there enough of a team in front of Lundqvist to make a serious run? I'm not up on the Rangers roster very well.

Buffalo, Carolina, Ottawa, Isles, Florida - Don't know, don't care.

Nicklas Lidstrom has agreed to a one-year deal to return for a 20th season, according to the Red Wings' Web site.

The site reported this morning that terms of the Lidstrom's deal were not finalized when the 41-year-old captain met with general manager Ken Holland in Las Vegas.

They are there for Wednesday's NHL Awards Show to see if Lidstrom will win the Norris Trophy for a seventh time as the league's best defenseman. Lidstrom is also a finalist for the Lady Byng Trophy and the Mark Messier Leadership Award.

A teleconference is scheduled for 11 a.m. with Holland and Lidstrom in which they will make the official announcement of the captain's return.

Welcome back Oil, Flame and BJack fans. It is DRAFT time....lol.... ( I kid, I kid... Just a few years ago draft day was the best part for Penguins fans)

TSN and Bob Mckenzie should have the 2011 draft rankings up tonight on TSN.

Still a toss up for the Oil. Most think they are going with Ryan N-H at #1. Still possible that they go D with Larsson or even Power Forward with Landeskog.

NHL draft is this FRIDAY 6/24.

That's very good news! Lidstrom is still the best defenceman in the league, even at 41!

Oilers may get two Ryan's before weeks end.

RNH will go first, book it.

    and

TSN reporting Ryan Smyth wants to go back to Oil in time for next year.

Indeed, a player demanding to be traded TO Edmonton.

Yeah everyone was talking about it this morning. I didn't mention it because I know everyone in here can use a break from the Bruins overload lately.

Get a load of Brad Marchand living it up with a $100,000 bottle of champagne and smokin' babes. At the start of the season he was a 4th line rookie nobody ever heard of. Now he's pretty much a household name to anyone who follows the NHL. How's that for a rookie season?

I thought the Oilers needed defence?

That would be cool to see Smyth back on the Oilers.

I knew he was a big game guy ever since he Captained the Canadian Jr team to two golds. Boston are lucky to have gotten him...

Flames resigned Henrik Karlsson today. Great goaltender at a great price. With him and Glencross locked down, I'm eager to see them resign Tanguay. I'm not too concerned about anybody else, Babchuk was great here but I think Brodie can take his spot on the PP.

And I say the Oilers should bring back Smyth, that team needs leadership and his willingness/desire to go there would really help a city still smarting from guys like Pronger spurning them.

Live it up. You get a free pass to gloat all you want until at least late April.

Detroit — Jaromir Jagr is narrowing his options.

Jagr's agent, Petr Svoboda, told The Detroit News on Tuesday morning that Jagr, if he returns to the NHL, would like to play of the Red Wings, Pittsburgh, or "one or two" other teams.

Those teams are believed to be the New York Rangers and Montreal.

    From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20110621/...#ixzz1PwVk79XC

Not sure how I'd feel about Jagr as a Wing. I'm glad Lidstrom is back but his plus/minus numbers aren't what they used to be.

I watched almost all of his junior career when he played for Moncton, most of us knew then he was an NHLer in the making, but I never thought he'd develop this kind of scoring prowess.

I love his game but the guy in person is a total asshole.

holy RETURN OF THE MULLET Batman.

Sure wouldn't mind Jagr coming back to the PENS. Guy was a first ballot HOFer in his time with Pittsburgh. I know those days are gone, but he would be a solid RW for either Sid or Geno, especially on the PP.

Some rumor out of Pittsburgh that Jagr needs some quick cash to help his family funds their Pro Hockey team they own in the Cezch League or something. Maybe Mario can find a mil or 2 in his couch to give that team a loan or something.

Supposedly Jagr and Mario will meet today...... Stay tuned #jagrwatch
