Default VH - AFL GRAND FINAL??

    http://www.triplem.com.au/melbourne/...0609-ck4m.html

EXCLUSIVE: Van Halen Aussie Tour Rumours Including Sideshows And AFL Grand Final
    Post by: Dave-O 9 June, 2011 - 9:28 AM

There have been a lot of Van Halen rumours going around about them doing extra shows alongside their appearance at the upcoming Soundwave Revolution festival.

One of the biggest rumours is that the hard rockers will play the AFL Grand Final. While that seems highly unlikely as Van Halen will be busy tearing up the Adelaide leg of the Soundwave Revolution tour on the same day of the Grand Final, which is, of course, played in Melbourne, Triple M music reporter contacted promoters yesterday to try and get a definitive answer.

"The band may be sounded out for the grand final. Let's not say it's happening yet, but& there might be a possibility that they'll be sounded out to play," said Nui.

If Van Halen were to play the AFL Grand Final, it would certainly be a different vibe to last year's act, 80s pop star Lionel Richie!

The other rumour is that Van Halen will play sideshows.

"[The promoter] said sideshows are a possibility but only if the Soundwave festivals sells out. They've got some dates up their sleeve. There's a whole week that Van Halen are here where they're not playing shows."

Van Halen joins Alice Cooper, Hole and Alter Bridge (featuring Slash's Myles Kennedy) as headliners for this year's Soundwave Revolution festival, while a new Van Halen album should be out by August.

Would be awesome to see VH at AFL Grand Final in front of 90,000 and a huge global Audience, playing JUMP.

I think VH start at 8.00 at night, so there'd be plenty of time to do a song or two at the game. That would be a dream!!!!

The promoter initially said there was zero chance of side shows.

I'll be fucking pissed, after buying tickets to 4 shows, if VH are doing side shows and I don't have the money to buy tickets.

Of course the promoter said that. He wanted you to buy tickets to the shows, didn't he? You can't possibly feel that bad right? I mean, you know you are going to Van Halen 4 times this year. That's pretty sweet.

If all else fails, you can try to sell the tickets to a couple of shows to get the money to see a sideshow.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

I do feel pretty bad. If they do their own solo shows, they'll be doing longer sets in better venues, which would obviously be more desirable for a diehard fan like me. I bought tickets to four shows based on the idea that such gigs wouldn't be happening.

The thing is, the promoter explicitly stated that there was "zero" chance of Van Halen doing sideshows. I've never been interested in a Soundwave show in the past, but I'm pretty sure that's not the norm...

And, absolutely, I could sell the festival tickets, but I'd be taking a loss on them, almost guaranteed. We'll see what happens.

Ultimately, I do hope they do sideshows. It means better gigs. I'm just going to be pissed off about being lied to, spending a bunch of money and, most likely, losing some of it.

I remember back in the day before the internet and information overload that you would only know about new albums when you first heard the new single on the radio. Maybe that's still their MO. Just sayin'.

I did read that VH will be playing a full set - cant remember where will try and find it

    Here it is.

Maddah has also revealed that the deal for the headlining Van Halen set is “based on VH bringing full US production” and is likely to be a 90 minute show

I don't place too much stock in what Triple M has to say, but they did seem to know about the VH Soundwave shows well ahead of the rest of us so maybe the statement about an August release isn't so crazy. I would certainly think that the band would want an album out prior to any tour. I guess it will be interesting to see when they announce extra dates, be they in Australia or back in the US. That will give us a further indication that this is the real deal and not some aberration of 5 isolated shows.
