Interesting interview...at about 9:50 Eddie says he doesn't even make music for his fans. He goes on to explain and what he says makes sense, that you have to create what you hear in your head and not be afraid to follow your artistic vision, without worrying about who is going to like it.

Thanks for putting that up here.

Eddie talks a great deal of sense in that interview - even though his references to giving up alcohol proved to be inaccurate. I really think he does believe what he's saying at the time of saying it.

He sounds like a decent person to talk to - once you can persuade him to do it, that is!

This is the Ed that I love and miss. Cool to hear his props to Chris Cornell and Ed Kowalszyk. Never knew exactly what he was listening to.

My thoughts exactly. Also, didn't seem like he was too mad at Sammy at this point in 1995. Too bad it all went south.

WOW great interview. Maybe the best I've heard from Ed beginning to end.

Just played it again and (aside from the sound issues toward the end) this is propbably those most enjoyable time I've had hearing Ed talk about making music. He seems so damn happy here....centered as hell. He provides more insight here than in 98% of the interviews I've ever heard him give. He even takes the high road when DLR comes up for the brief time he is mentioned.

It's just DAMN hard to swallow that the man we have now standing in for Eddie Van Halen is now the face of that band. I miss the dude heard in this recording.

    I tell you what,

I have been saying it for years.... I agree with the guys responding to this post. This is my favorite Ed. He sounds like a normal guy and is just so well "balanced" (no pun intended ) its great to hear him talk and be open. I guess booze and dope can really do a number on someone and Ed is a prime example but forgetting for a moment (because we all know how he went downhill after 95 and then 98) his past I guess I have to say it sounds so refreshing to hear 95 era interviews. Another good one is when him and Sam were on the Jon Stewart show. Simply the coolest guy ever. One of the reasons I like Balance the best (album and tour) is due to the state my man Eddie was in at the time. I love all eras of VH but 95 was still and is always my favorite and this interview is exactly the reason why. If anyone remembers the Balance tour (I sure do) his playing was freakin awesome and had a huge, majestic sound with amazing chorus. Whether or not you prefer the processed Ed era like I do or the more raw sound of Ed today you have to admit he was spot on back then. I also must say that Ed lately sort of looks like this again and I really hope the Eddie we see in the next album and tour is a version of this one.

awesome find. This made my night hearing this one.

    Rob
