    Default THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Al Sharpton couldn't stay in New York, could he?? Now he's right in my back yard. I'm NOT ready for the problems that follow him, and his minions. He did have something, actually, profound to say...that shocked me.

Rev. Al Sharpton announces new Iowa chapter of action network in Waterloo

WATERLOO, Iowa --- The Rev. Al Sharpton announced Monday that he'll be launching an Iowa chapter of his National Action Network in Waterloo.
Sharpton said he hoped to use his local chapter to push local and federal politicians in the upcoming 2012 election cycle on a range of issues from access to education and organized labor to civil rights. He said the statewide chapter won't, however, endorse candidates of any party.

"The only impact that National Action Network wants is to help set some policies on the table and challenge all the candidates to address the issues," he said at a press conference at Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
Sharpton didn't say whether the group wouldn't be just limited to addressing presidential candidates during the leadoff caucuses this winter or for other offices.

Sharpton, a New York City civil rights activist and 2004 presidential candidate, was asked to come here by Frieda Weems, a local resident and civil rights activist. The visit also stems from a request made at the network's national convention in April by Waterloo community members to form an Iowa chapter.

"They said they wanted a chapter and even though they are not a major urban area, they are a key state," Sharpton said. "I told them I would come, and here I am."

Sharpton said he believes the chapter would be able to have an impact statewide in both rural and urban areas by pushing officials on the group's priorities.

Sharpton also said he has a long relationship with Waterloo and the Cedar Valley, which he also visited in 2004 as a presidential candidate.
"I think this is the first stop for civil rights leaders in Iowa," he said.

Sharpton started his morning meeting with ministers, civil rights leaders and elected officials at Mount Carmel. Later he hosted his radio show "Keepin' It Real" from the University of Northern Iowa campus.
An estimated 200 people showed up at a rally at Mount Carmel on Monday evening. A service of singing and prayer preceded Sharpton's animated presentation, which fueled cheers, applause and, at times, standing ovations.

During an introduction, the Rev. Frantz Whitfield of Mount Carmel noted that Sharpton's work has generated both positive and negative feedback. He referenced the Bible, saying "when I would do good, evil is always present."

"Rev. Sharpton has been one who has never held his tongue," Whitfield said. "But everything that he does he does it for a purpose and that's because he wants each and every one of us - not just the African American community but all races and creeds - to be in the spirit of unity and all of us to have justice."

Sharpton spoke about budget cuts affecting "the seeds" of education, job programs and youth projects. President Barack Obama cannot fix everything, he said, but rather "change should come from the bottom up."
"Even if you're not responsible for being down, you're responsible for getting up," he said. "Don't be worried about your background. Come on and help us save this nation. Whatever you've been through was to get you ready for what you got to do."

Weems said Sharpton's visit was in response to criminal and educational disparities locally and around the state.
"We're No. 1 on the bad side of things," she said.

Weems' mother, community activist Anna Mae Weems, 85, said she was happy to see Sharpton come back to the area. Many problems, like promoting small business growth, continue to be problematic for Waterloo, Weems said. The new chapter may help to bring new sets of eyes with new solutions.

The Rev. Jay Burt, president of the Eastside Ministerial Alliance, agreed, saying that the Cedar Valley had a large amount of untapped resources that needed to be met.

"I know sometimes we need help every now and then, but all it takes for you to do is to put one foot in front of the other," he said. "We from Waterloo need to send a message beyond the state borders to the rest of the world that not only do we matter, but we're moving."
Sharpton is expected to make similar appearances in the Des Moines area today.

Sharpton founded the National Action Network in New York in 1991 and serves as its president. The National Action Network has 47 chapters nationwide.

The highlighted part, I liked. It's about time a prominent black leader finally said something like that. Instead of casting blame on everyone else, like he normally does, he finally told the black community to, basically, get off your asses, and make something of yourself, don't be incumbent upon others to do it for you.

Yeah, he was invited here by Frieda Weems, a local resident and civil rights activist. She has the "race card" chip on her shoulder. If a black person does wrong, or doesn't achieve, she blames it on everyone else EXCEPT the person that messed up. She immediately goes to the race card. Her mother is a sweet lady, who marched along side MLK Jr. But her daughter THRIVES on racial division, and causes most of it herself.

I'm sure if you mention the name Frieda Weems, you'll have to watch to make sure his eyes don't roll out of his head, in disgust.
