Default David Lee Roth - Unchained in Detroit, 2006

If there's one thing I seriously missed in 2007/8, it was the impromptu audience segments, like with the two girls. Granted a lot of time is wasted with the band messing around, but I really enjoyed some of the banter during the song.

Solid performance on Dave's end. Not as good as his VH performances in the next couple of years, but you can tell he was on top of his game as a solo artist for the first time in quite awhile.

"He was born a human, he's a horse's ass by proxy." - It's Mike on Eddymon.

I think that kind of banter plays better in a club, it isn't as effective in a large arena.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I remember that! That was the first time I saw Dave live and he was absolutely fantastic, better than I thought he would be. I walked away from that show thinking, "Man, he HAS to get back with Van Halen." Six months later we got the announcement. I should also mention that DTE holds roughly 15,000 people and there were about 2,000 at this show. The lawn was empty and the pavilion at 1/4 full at best. I guess that's what happens when you schedule an aging rocker the day of the Woodward Dream Cruise.

You're the one who sent me the video.

I was feeling a bit 2006 earlier today and decided to search this one up for the first time since you showed it to me. I remember Dave sounding spectacular and he really did, especially compared to other shows from the past decade.

You and I spent HOURS that night talking about Dave working to get back into VH. Turns out we were right...just with one twist. You didn't seem as disenchanted with it as I was

I've seen dave twice there and once when he opened for bad company at the Joe. First time was in 94 and he was awful, there were maybe 1000 people there and they just said screw it and let everyone in the pavilian. Next was the show at the Joe and to be honest he was just too damn loud. Couldn't even tell what was going on. Then I saw him at the sam and dave show...place was packed, it was right at the start of that tour and people were going nuts, that was also the day the wings beat the avalanche like 7-2...some of sammy's gig is on the long road to cabo.

dave was better the last time I saw him but it seemed like the wind was out of his sails for some reason.
